Finding a Cooking Pot
I cannot for the life of me find a freakin' cooking pot. I haven't played the game in over a year, but it used to be that you would find a campsite and scavenge the cooking pot from there. I've now hit five campsites and none of them have real campfires - just cosmetic ones. I've got more cloth than I need, but no cooking pot.

What's the deal? Where do I find this thing? I need the pot for clean water.

I usually find them in the kitchens inside of homes. Sometimes they are sitting on cabinets, but most of them are inside of ovens.

If you're stuck use cans as you don't need a pot for them, or make it yourself with a forge

Start looking in some of the remote areas (dirt laned path off a roadway) for a 2 story house that's half stone and wood, it has a forge you can use for the mats needed to make one. The house I've mentioned is pretty common in the rural areas.

Yah the dirt roads might lead to small tent camps -> usually cooking pot can be found there -> unless it has been taken by some other players already.

The pots are randomly found, but the most I've found are in small towns (clusters of small houses). Usually, you can find a pot in some of the taller buildings on the 2nd floor - they'll be sitting on top of the refrigerator or cabinets. Single-story homes will have them in the kitchen, as a previous poster said. Camps sometimes drop them, as well as stores (gun store, hardware store, etc). Without a pot, you can't boil water or cook meat, so finding a small town should be your focus for days 2 - 4. It might take a lot of running, but you do what you have to to survive.

You can still cook meat and water, just need to put the water in cans and char the meat

I have yet to find a pot at a campsite since 14.x launched.

I have however found them in towns in the homes. However, I have found most of mine in the 2-3 story brick buildings with a kitchen on the top floor.

It's true, and often I have found them sitting *on top* of a kitchen appliance, such as the refrigerator and not inside a lootable storage bin like a cabinet.

There is at least one of the "campsites" that still has a cooking pot with it (maybe the one with two sleeping bags?) - but since there's a few different styles of camp POI's for the RNG game to choose from, it doesn't often show up.

So yeah...kitchens are where they tend to show up the most, in the cabinets or sometimes out in the open on a shelf. If you're near/in a Wasteland biome vs. a town or random lone-POI, check the ruin-blocks that have the sink/toilet. I'll usually find a pot in one of those before too long.

I killed a bear and I have no option to cook the meat. Chared or otherwise... How do I cook meat now? I'm sure alpha 13 let me char meat. :/ I think I'm missing something obvious. When I select the meat and choose recipies (after selecting the campfire) there is no option to char or at least it says I need a pot/grill etc. I'm only up to 10 leather so making a bellows at the moment is not feasable.

If the meat is in your inventory, there is fuel in the fire, then as you said, selecting the item to cook should show the option for charred meat, amongst others.

Odd.

I will try again now and report back!

If the meat is in your backpack, you don't need to actually select the meat to see the recipe in the campfire menu. It'll just auto-highlight/bold that recipe text at the menu top of the campfire menu at the left, if you have the stuff required. It does this with all recipes you have ingredients for at the time.

If it's not highlighting/bolding the text for "charred meat" when you're inside the campfire menu with meat in your backpack, then yeah ... dunno either. You don't need pot/grill for just charred meat. (you do need one for the other types of cooked meat).

ok. That's strange.. it's there now :(. I really don't know why it wasn't there. At least my character can now eat charred bear! :D Now to get some canned water.
