Food poisoning should be more punishing.
Title says it all. But let me justify it in the thread body. Currently in-game I am carrying 50 Old Sham Sandwiches as my "expedition food" when out on long outings. Why am I doing this? Because the pros simply outweigh the cons. They feed me for 15 points of fullness. They are extremely common. They don't smell. And they stack, unlike when you find a stash of all various kinds of canned food that can occupy many bag slots while my 50 rotten sandwiches fit neatly in one slot. There is a drawback, but it's not enough to make me discontinue this habit. I have a 50% chance of getting food poisoning from eating one of these things. When I do get food poisoning, I get a slight wellness debuff that barely even matters and will be offset by eating fresh food I have stashed in my base and a pitifully short debuff to my stamina that only lasts a measly 20 seconds. So I'm out on my own, and I get hungry. I find some place safe to duck into and chow down on some old sham sandwich. If I get food poisoning, I sit tight for 20 seconds and then move on as if nothing happened. The same effect can be achieved with Rotten Flesh. I should not be able to do this. I should not be able to use rotten food in this way to the point where it is a superior choice to real food when in the field. My suggestion is to either make food poisoning more serious, perhaps a much longer stamina debuff duration that can be fixed quicker by consuming an antibiotic, or to make rotten food smell and attract zombies. If the former is done, I will want to avoid the prospect of getting food poisoning as much as I want to avoid getting dysentery and would discontinue use of rotten foods unless desperate. If the latter was done, rotten foods lose their edge of not smelling and attracting zombies so if I'm going to be carrying smelly food anyway I might as well bring some healthier grilled meat or something.

I have also found no real reason to eat at all
0% food and no debuffs from what I can tell
But I still eat because I can

I agree, rotten food should not have more pros than cons. It's kind of crazy that you can even have such a boost to fullness given that the food is rotten. Perhaps it should, in addition to the above suggestions, work similar to Minecraft, where you can get your emergency fullness by eating rotten food, but it makes you sick and lasts for a very short amount of time. Also, can you get infected by eating rotten flesh? I haven't tried it out, but that would seem obvious given that you often harvest this from dead zombies, lol.

I have never understood why rotten flesh doesn't smell in this game. Have the developers never smelled it in real life?

I think the idea is that rotten flesh will not smell in a way which attracts zombies, since they already got that lol

In that case, wouldn't carrying rotten flesh mask your smell and limit the range of detection by zombies??

Yes, kinda like The Walking Dead.

Indeed. Please put some spacing in there.

I've never been in a position where I had to eat rotten flesh or even old shamway.

Getting food is too easy in this game, especially without spoiling. So I agree that the penalties for eating that crappy stuff should be higher, unfortunately they seem to be casualizing the game to a big degree lately so I doubt it'll change.

Only spoiling if it as abundant as it is now. I mean you can melee a deer in a couple hits and it soon is dead. Too easy to kill them. Too slow. I made a trip after getting 36 meat from 5 animals in a day and a half.
2 of which were bears right after one another, but I had to use a gun though.

Yep, same here. I haven't taken out any bears, but I run down deer and pigs with my blue barbed club. It's easier and faster than a bow.

Sledgehammer. No matter the quality it kills them in around 4 hits. Only ever use guns in desperate times, during the hoard, or when defending myself from a bear.

I also reserve old sandwiches as my secondary food because they are freaking easy to loot and can use vitamin/ antibiotic to regain your wellness that lost from posion.

Happy to inform you this has been fixed in alpha 17.

There is now a chance of getting food poisoning from canned food so when I firsted started alpha 17 and spawned in with my starter can of food and I eventually ate it I got food poisoning. This caused my hunger to go down from about 70% to 25% which also put my max health and stamina to 25 so when I went to find more food in a house I was killed in 2 hits by a sneaky zed.

If I remember correctly the effect lasted 10 min.
(Yes, I know this is a 2 year old discussion)
