i had issues until i cleared the blocks to either side of the ladder.
I had trouble climbing ladders too if the part i was climbing went from the ladder being fully exposed to having the middle exposed but the sides were buried in stone. i cleared away the stone and was able to continue climbing. if there is no transition, and the edges are buried but the middle is exposed, i can climb it without problems.
hope this helps.
I also had the same problem when I began. Jump up and use the dirt or stone from digging to get yourself out of the hole (if you haven't already gotten out).
To prevent this; I dig two times down, then I dig out the area where the ladder goes, and place a block (Wood Cabin for me) and then the ladder. This ensures a smooth surface and that the ladder isn't encased in stone or dirt or anything.
@Rabite - Thanx!!!
Or, if you learn how the diamond shaped dirt and stone blocks work, you'll be able to create ramps that don't require any blocks being placed or jumping to go back up.
I've done both of this myself, but it takes getting used to before you get the hang of it. Once you do it'll be a joke and you'll be wondering why you didn't realize it earlier. If I was more motivated I would create a video to show everyone... but honestly, I'm not unfortunatly.
