how to convert survival single player to survival multi-player?
Hi all, I started a survival single player game and I'd like to play it multi-player - is there a way I can convert the gametype by editing a file in the save game directory?

I've had a quick look and there's no obvious .XML setting etc.

Thanks in advance.

No need to edit anything to make a single player game into a multiplayer game. Truth is there is no difference between a single player game and a multi-player game. If you have friend who want to join you in your single player game, they can do so by just joining your server. I was confused by this as well but you can look it up and its easy and free to set up a server. Then your friends can spawn into your game anytime your on. Kinda the way it works in multiplayer on console games.

You can use single player games without issue when running the dedicated server. If you just want to do client hosted (as in start 7DTD, and select continue game and have it be multiplayer), see the following post:

awesome.. thanks Red Eagle LXIX - I'd tried searching on the official forums, but obviously my search-fu wasn't good enough.

I've used notepad++ with the hex editor plugin and can confirm it works fine.

now I can share my awesome random world with friends - after 1 day exploring the forest / roads / lakes I finally saw my first sign of civilisation - a camp in the wilderness, which gave me a cooking pot so I could finally cook all the port / venison and stop myself from starving to death :)

I ve tested out what was written on that forum, but i got stuck on the part offset 0x000C. Tried with different programs, hxd, frhed. And none show any offset like mentionned. Screenshot on the link also isnt available anymore. Any idea wich little 6 need to be changed in 7 ? ^^

Edit: found out another way. I just copied the main.ttw file from a multiplayer save, over the one of a single player save.

Początkowo opublikowane przez Red Eagle LXIX:
It is possible to change a Single Player (Survival SP) game to a multiplayer game through a hex edit.

Find the save you want to change from Survival SP.
Open main.ttw in a hex editor.
At offset 0x000C you will find a value of 6.
--Update: Newer versions of the game the byte to change is 5 bytes after the Alpha version text. Please see below
Change the 6 to a 7.
Save main.ttw.
Load game and now it will be Survival MP with all the multiplayer options including allowing people to join.

Naturally the reverse is true, making an MP game to SP you would change the 7 to a 6.

t still works, but not quite the same as before. The address is now dynamic. It will be 5 bytes after the the Alpha version text:

In this example you can see the save was created on Alpha 11.6(b6) and 5 bytes after the ) you can see the 06.

Here is an example created on the current version:
Address. 00 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 0A 0B 0C 0D 0E 0F Text - this is a header line 00000000 74 74 77 00 0C 00 00 00 0E 41 6C 70 68 61 20 31 ttw......Alpha 1 00000010 31 2E 36 28 62 36 29 00 00 00 00 06 00 00 00 00 1.6(b6).........

I might want to do this at some point.
I can't believe they haven't done something with this yet. Sigh.
