How to Spawn Next To Friends?
Hey survivalists,

Prior to Alpha 9 you could spawn next to other players by having the 'friendly fire' set to off. However a friend and I are trying to play with one another in a new game with a randomly generated world and we're spawning in completely different biomes; which with a randomly generated world could mean we're extremely far away from one another!

Does anyone know how to spawn next to friends/find one another?

I don't know how to spawn next to some one, but if you or your friend are hosting the game you can enable debug mode (make sure cheats are enabled in the server options, then press ~ then type in dm and hit enter), then use the "set position" option. To find the position of a player have the admin (you or your friend) type "lp" (that's Lp) to list players. You will get a list of players currently connected and their coordinates. The first set of numbers and the last set of numbers in "pos(###,###,###)" are what you want (the second set of numbers seems to be elevation.). Be sure to include any -'s and have god mode enabled (press G) as it will put you in the air. Once teleported use C to go back to the ground, then turn off god mode.

Thanks dude, we'll use that for the future! :)

That seems a little complicated though doesn't it. All throughout the previous alphas it was so easy to spawn and play with friends - now suddenly it's not :/ Seems a bit backwards :/

Yes it does seem a bit overly complicated lol. Before the A9 release you could just right click on the map with debug enabled and it would teleport you. In A9 though, right clicking the map gives you a way point (which is awesome) but no direct teleport option.

But in one way it might be kind of cool to have to find each other as part of the challenge of the game. Helps the immersion don't you think?

It does help with immersion to have to seek out your companions imo, but if you're new to the game it can be really helpful to start near a friend.

I have two friends I bought a the game for recently and I should be able to spawn next to them and introduce them to the game smoothly rather than be like 'oh hold on a sec, need to fiddle with some teleportations'. But hey ho, maybe they'll fix this in a hot fix patch :) thanks for the help everyone!

would be alot easier if the admin could just use teleport! on him self or an player!

This has been asked and tried a fair bit of times during the last year.
There is an xml-file just for the spawning locations setting random spawns around Origin with a distance of 1000 units. But changing these lines has zero effect ingame (seems the spawn locs for random gen are hardcoded somewhere else - haven't worked since atleast a11).

One person claimed they spawned together if they all hit "JOIN WORLD" at the same time after a count down over voice chat. If that still works or not I can't say for sure.

What I do is add the friends to my map friends list in the menu and then I hit TRACK on a particular friend and then I look at my compass and follow the green arrow straight to them after getting some clothes on so I don't look like a cheap hooker.

We do this as well, I track Dom, Dom tracks Hashy and Hashy tracks me so we're all covered when split.

Just found out that you can actually hold left CTRL to bypass the setmarker tool and teleport in debug mode using the Map. Thanks everyone for the help.

Thanks for sharing your finding Toeslap. I didn't know that and I'm sure a lot of people will appreciate that info.
