Beware of cooking pots...
So I was just strolling around gathering supply drops from the rundown biome on day 21 and noticed a shopping cart and a cooking pot. Well the shopping cart had nothing valuable, but atleast I could take that cooking pot and scrap it. BOOM!

Have gotten all the way to day 21 without single death, wellness at 152, really good gear, a lot of ammunition and to end it all with a single piece of random mine...

Whose idea was this?

Random mines really are stupid, because I am more terrified of random mines than ferals or dogs. Not even zombiebears are that scary.

This game NEEDS to have some way to scare the $hit out of you... >:-]

Edit: you'll probably appreciate this then

So I think you guys will like whats coming. Traps are much different than each other, and we discovered a bug in xml making all mines do the default damage, which is why the candy tin mines in the wasteland were one shotting players instead of just injuring them. Armor is still useless against explosions so hopefully that gets fixed soon.

Hopefully that will all be fixed by the time the stable A15 build is released. The idea of blowing myself up just grabbing a cooking pot, without some method of distinguishing it from a land mine, is not a good one, and it won't be fun or fearsome - just f'ing annoying.

And on the issue of land mines, I think the A15 notes said you can't pick up land mines anymore...is this correct? Even your own pressure plate mines?

Yes. You can however blow up mines by shooting them.
Don't know about the pressure plate ones...

Random minefields or even single mines/traps is something I would expect to see in a real life zombie apacalypse. Think about it, the militray fleeing, or trying to set up a perimeter places land mines to slow/thin out advancing zeds, warn of approaching zeds. or even redirect zeds since they respond to sound. Same with survivors placing ieds. They could use them as a way to get wondering zeds to respond to a certain area, or clear an escape zone. Place some ieds out front, they are trigged by zombies, or even shooting them.
If it was the army, they prob placed 100s or even more and not all of they get trigged. Same with survivors, they fled, or died before getting to set them off, forgot where they placed them. As far as this game goes, we need a way to set them off (throwing rocks, shooting them). This disarming them I know is planned, but think it did not make it into this alpha.

random mines are a stupid idea.. is there a way to "mod" it out ? i dont wanna play this with mines..exept for those around a military Base. (i dont play with revive and dont want to die because of a crap idea nobody wants..) i dont think that random mines would be common in a apocalypse.. and its just annoying ingame -.-

Yes there is, google it man. I remember a bunch of topics about stupid random mines, and how to mod them out in XML.

just fyi,

the 4 types of mines in the wasteland are pretty sparse, but still a threat if you don't know what you are looking for.
Be on the lookout for the standard foot popper (candy tin) mines, these are always live.
Hubcaps can be mines sometimes
cooking pots ( mostly on little mounds) can be sometimes
sheets of metal on mounds(bluish green) can also be mines

If you aren't sure, just shoot it with an arrow, if it goes "clank" most likely you are safe to try to harvest it or pick it up. if you don't get an interaction que on a cooking pot, <E to pick up>, then it is most likely a mine.

They really only detonate when you are walking over them (enter onto the same block as them) if you are skillful enough, you can run-jump over them and not set them off.

a really easy way to locate mines in the wasteland, is to go out at night, around 12 - 2 am (when it starts to get less dark). The mines will pretty easily stand out with a greensh tinge (not quite glowing, but close)

In a real life zombie apocalypse, hopefully, "Zed's" can't read, they would at least warn the, "soon to be extinct", populace with "Mine Field" hazard signs, if set by the military.

Maybe these alternative use kitchen appliances (hopefully those words didn't set off any F.B.I or N.S.A eavesdropping klaxons) are employed by, the soon to be released, bandits.

I wonder if the knowledge book for making these devices is learned by finding a copy of "The Anarchist's Cookbook" and reading it. However, soon as you read it, the Fed's are automatically aware of your reading criteria, date, time and I.P. number; just as in real life when you order that book on-line. So, beware, all you right-clickers of nefarious books, you have been warned.

There needs to be challenges in the game. Once you become accustom to this game the Z get easy. Bow takes them down if you get the timing right. So yeah glad to see random dangers to keep me on my toes. Our server we went one step further and turned the bandits on. They need work but they are an added danger. PM me if you want server info.

Yep I suffered a "death by hubcap". I never touch any of those things mentioned above now that are not found in their usual places. I haven't heard of hubcaps blowing up where you would normally find them (on cars), or cooking pots blowing up where you normally find them (in kitchens). Be verrrry warrrry.

Did someone not tell you this game is difficult?

Thank god that missile in the silo doesn't go off when you jump down on it, from the upper access panel. The only way to find your backpack is getting to the highest rooftop around and watch it sail across the backdrop of the blood-moon every 7 days, like E.T. in the bicycle basket.
