lower the health:
<property name="MaxHealth" value="2800" />
The lower the value the lower the health.
thank you
Or save them (the ferals, not the slugs) until daybreak and use the blunderbuss (it has a "winded" buff) combined with fireaxe (range is massive on the fireaxe so you can hit it whilst it's stunned without fear of a counter-strike from its stinking, pus-oozing disease-ridden claws) or explosives (pipe bomb) to gettem gud.
They're supposed to be hard (they're the Boss Zed) and give good loot so you may not want to make them *too* easy to kill.
Also, of course, if you lower their HP too much and they *are* too easy to kill, you'll never learn to deal with them via different tictacs.
Good Hunting regardless &
Not had calipers in the last couple of games I've played either, but there are plenty of bullet cases as loot (if you start collecting on Day 1) even at 25% loot, no respawn and no airdrops.
Blunderbuss is my equal 2nd favourite weapon (pipe bombs my other) after the bow, since its quality levels up in line with all that gunpowder you are making for Pipe bombs, so you end up with a decent quality 'Buss in the first week.
EDIT: Also, its use increases shottie skill so helps if you decide to go shottie later.
It's close range, sure, but you just time the shot the same way as you would a punch or melee strike (run in after it's swung, fire in its face and backpedal; then hit it with the axe whilst it's winded.)
I understand where you're coming from, but practice makes perfect!
You asked the question in the OP (any way to kill them easier or faster) & I'm just giving you an answer that works for me.
2111 hours in the game; not as many as some but enough to have learnt to stop worrying and love the Blunderbuss
Good Hunting & Happy to Help
EDIT2: You could also lower the difficulty on the game.
In the interests of total disclosure, on the maximum difficulty SP game I have going on A14, I used Valmar's method on the ferals so they end up with around the same hitpoints as they have on default.
But the stone axe isn't a weapon, it's a tool
unskilled in blunt weapons it will decap zeds in a single swing even at moderately low quality which you'll almost never have because it's still a found schematic.
i fight lumberjacks and ferals with the sledge all the time
