I cant be the only one that has fallen due to this.
You could also alt+f4.
The time spent reaching for ESC would be better served by doing almost literally anything else to try and save your ass, run away, switch items to heal, try to knock enemies over, try to craft blocks to pillar your way to safety, drink beer, drink coffee, try to swap the shotgun in your inventory onto your bar so you can create some breathing room, etc. :S
To answer Skag's supposition, even in singleplayer, if you exit the zombies poof, afaik.
Heres a guide on that https://autohotkey.com/docs/misc/Remap.htm
Maybe you can help me understand something, please.
How does something a person does in the privacy of there own single player game affect us on the outside?
Why should we care how they play in single player?
Why do we have to put on our judgy hat and make them feel small?
Why does anyone feel the need to make another feel small?
I may be to far into the spectrum to ever get this.
Seems like everyone has chosen to assume something else though.
Good grief peep's I'd love to find a way to rebind the F1 key, too. And not for cheating reasons but to fix an obviously inconvenient mechanic in the game.
Oh I for one certainly use the esc key to back out of mwnus on a regular basis, but I've yet to hit F1. Though I have however hit tab, or worse yet, the Windows key, so I definitely know how you feel.
I also don't see how it matters why you use the esc key. Sure, exiting the game to effectively reset it is a bit exploitative, which clearly isn't the case here, but wether you pause the game or not either you have the skill to get out of the situation or you don't. Ot it was that much of a problem you'd think the devs would disable the time freeze, wouldn't you?
A lot of times i'm using the number keys because the mouse wheel doesn't toggle weapons when you are on the run, at least not for me. Maybe i'll look for a way to fix that instead if F1 is hopeless as a minimization approach.
