Ok Madmole - Its time - Make Arrows Visible.
Time to show arrows / bolts in bodies and walls etc. They also should be recoverable from a dead zombie.

make all arrows despawn after 5 minutes, problem solved. No server crashing due to "to many arrows"

You do realzie how many arrows could be fired within a 5 minute interval during a feral horde right, especially on an active server? That could well be over 1000 arrow entities that need to be spawned, stay in memory, and disappear within that time frame. It's not a good idea at all.

lower the time to 2 minutes, that seems like enough time to get your arrows outta the ground if you miss, as for zombies, when they die have them hold the arrows in their inventories

Yep turn down other settings. Just add an option to remove arrows.

Either way you should still be able to LOOT arrows from bodies.

I agree, that could be a much more viable option.

seems very unimportant atm to add something as superficial as arrows sticking out of bodies that degrade to flesh piles in a matter of seconds. i dont mind the idea of arrow recovery or even parts of the arrow like feathers or arrowheads in loot but seeing the arrow stick out is a huge waste of resources that could go to more important things.

Would be good to have arrows on the corpse when you loot it, but other than that they would bung up the pc with more stuff to follow and look at than need be, to be able to grab them in the loot from whatever you killed with them (making sure it's a same as or lesser amount) would be a nice addition. :rf:

Reviving this thread cuz its relevant. I have always felt it was strange to hear the hit and see the animation of the zombie taking a hit but to never see the arrow. Voxel or not, its reasonable. If they had to cheat to get it to work, just have a sprite texture of one arrow when its two or less arrows and then another sprite used when there's more than 2 arrows. The entity (zombie or tree or w/e) will store the number of arrows and when you loot, you'd get a random number of them back. (Skyrim, Dying Light were pretty accurate with arrows...they fade away depending on detail settings)

MM said in one of the streams its already being worked on and is needed to implement spears. So you will see where they stick on enemies. He said that will be first iteration and down the road they will look into feasibility of recovering arrows.

I don´t think its a performance problem with "too many arrows", if you kill a zombie with arrow you can loot it from the dead corp ... maybe a small chance to get arrows back ...but thats all ... no problems with performance ...

Exactly what I was going to say. Just have a percentage of arrows that hit spawn in the zed's inventory (some would likey break). No issue with hundreds of arrow models poking out everywhere and you still have to keep crafting more to replace the lost/broken ones.
