Gyrocopter control
I'm REALLY thinking about rushing my skill points into being able to build a gyro. Question is, are they worth it? Are they really easy to break if you land too hard, or are they pretty forgiving? Are the controls (unrealistically) easy, or am I going to crash the first 30 times I try to fly it? (Keyboard and mouse, not controller. I know that normally makes a HUGE difference with flight controls.)

It flies pretty realistically to how a gyrocopter flies- Namely, It flies like a plane- NOT like a helicopter.

You can nose dive into the ground and barely damage it, in my experience.

The controls aren't particularly 'unrealistically easy'; But they're not flight sim either. Smooth takeoff and landing will be the hardest skill to it, once you're in the air it's a cake walk.

The controls to fly a Gyro are pretty wonky. Easier to fly than any Arma games at least but you will have difficulty flying it. Also, don't even try to take off or land on dirt or sand. It will get stuck on pebbles and take damage or spin around like crazy. Always make a landing pad for it out like concrete or wood if need be.

The way the controls are set, you'll basically be either bending forward of backwards for speed or slowing down. Turning around while flying is super janky and you can accidently crash by it. Landing but not taking damage is also pretty difficult.

Do be warned, you'll have vultures on your tail in a gyro as they hit you and there's nothing you can do about it

So.... Why don't you start up a new game, cheat in a gyrocopter see if it breaks or whatever? See if it works for you.

I just think that's going to be easier/faster than getting potentially conflicting opinions here.

Worth it, they are NOT easy to break, the controls are (unrealistically) easy, and yes you will crash a lot. At least, til you're more familiar with the controls.

One of the most common mistakes people make is thinking that gyrocopter = helicopter. It's not, it's more like a plane and handles like one. (People who claim to be familiar with gyros have actually said it's very accurate)

Gyro is great fun, and feels very cool and relaxing to tour around in. But I don't rush to it, and don't recommend doing that unless you are going full int combat anyway (robotic turrets). I stop at motorcycle until later when I feel I have points to spare. I consider the gyro a rich man's luxury rather than a survivalists necessity.

It's not hard at all to actually fly once you are in the air. Taking off though is probably the one thing that requires some practice and experience, and some level tree-free space to do it in.

I'm a pilot irl. #1 rule to remember. It is not a helicopter.

The biggest problem I have with the gyro is accidentally hitting the E key and bailing out at altitude. Other than that it's fun.

But remember, it needs a pretty good runway to take off. Though you can, with practice, drop it into tight spots like a rooftop, then put it in your pocket until you find a suitable take off area.

I'm aware of the difference between gyrocopter and a traditional heli. I dabble in aviation myself (ultralights, no license but I know a few things).

I love my gyro and find it easy to fly... but that's after MANY hours of awful crashes, hitting 'e' accidentally, kissing the tops of pine trees and spinning out of control, vulture attacks, falling off roofs... you name it. The gyro is an amazing tool if you're willing to take the time to give it a chance and always keep in mind that it's a PLANE, flies like a plane and is NOT a helicopter. Those who don't like it (and that WAS me before I really did my best to try) have not really figured it out, have not really spent the time to play with it, and don't really know how convenient it makes the world. It really is a time saver and just a wonder to be able to see so far, understand the layout of the map better and get over annoying mountains... the bane of my existence.

Agree, this is the worst part. Eventually, you will accidentally hit the E key and Die.

As many times as I've done it on the two wheeler, I'm quite sure I'm going to have my fair share of unintended sky dives. Probably should also invest in parkour.

You're probably going to crash the first few times, but honestly, you'll have more trouble with take-offs then you'll have with landings. For the most part all the vehicles in this game don't break easily, and are easy to repair, so if you somehow break one it's really your fault. What's more likely from crashing with the gyro is you'll take falling damage.

I read in another thread if you build a ramp and use it while taking off it pushes you into the air alot faster, not sure if thats true since ive never tried it but its worth a try.

It works. Honestly if you can get airborne and at like a 45 degree angle upwards, you're good. Only thing that will stop you at that point is if you hit something that either knocks you to the ground or angles you downwards again.

Yep. If I remember correctly, landings can be as simple as getting near the ground and hitting E

One other note while I'm thinking about it. Sometimes I will begin a new map by spawning a gyro at my original spawn point at startup and role play that I'm a pilot on a recon mission who got lost and ran out of gas. Of course I can't fly again until I round up enough gas. This can be a fun diversion from a regular startup. It adds a big twist.
