Any kind of XML change only needs to be server side, as the server commits XML changes to the client upon join to ensure that both match.
It's mods that add entirely new assets that don't already exist in game, new models, new icons, new zombies, new audio, etc, that have to be installed on both, as the client will not have those 'New' files without getting them manually. (That said, in many cases, the client can join anyway; they just wont see anything in the place of those new assets.)
Mods like Unnecessary but Beautiful for example should be able to be auto loaded on join.
The modding community has made some great mods for 7D2D but they don't see their potential because most players just can't understand (or can't be bothered) adding mods manually. :(
You have obviously no clue how modding works In this game. No mod messes with your installation. Every change made is in a seperate folder and doesn´t touch the original game files. If you wanna get rid of all your mods you simply delete your mod folder and it´s done.
And with A21 the mods won´t even be located in the installation folder anymore and you can actually choose to have them in appdata in A20 already.
Still, mods with big/heavy files like "Unnecessary but Beautiful" mod, will take time to download once you connect to that server.
And it´s a one time thing, you don´t need to download server side mods (wich already exist) every time you connect to the server.
I connect to Server1 which has the "Unnecessary but Beautiful" mod installed, so I'll need to wait for it to install and then play.
But say I try another server, e.g. Server2, which also has the "Unnecessary but Beautiful" mod... will I need to wait for it to download again because it's a different server, or will the server use the copy I already downloaded from Server1?
But usually no 2 servers run the same mods even if they have some in similar and you can´t have mods installed and play on a server that doesn´t have them.
Playing on 2 different modded servers wouild need having 2 game directories that you need to rename everytime you switch. Doing that you should propably use mod launcher instead wich enables you to switch between mods easily with just a few clicks.
The game would use the copy of the mod that you already have downloaded. The only time it will download the mod again is when there has been an update to the mod. i.e. to patch the mod to suit a Base game update a20 to a21 for example.
DayZ for example has been using this system of auto downloading and applying mods for years... It works quite well and allows respect for the modding community in the way of recognition and ease of applying the mods.
I dont understand what you are saying? Later On? 7D2D was released on December 13, 2013. How long does it need to be "Later On"?
