An official response by one of TFP devs on the direction of the game
Some time ago a YouTuber named Reach Gaming made this video to make public some of his doubts and worries about 7D2D development:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-xN09HSvgg

One of The Fun Pimp devs, replied to his video with this, hence giving at least some clarifications on the direction of the game in general:

Mr. Reach, I really hope the rest of the Dev team and I at The Fun Pimps can meet or exceed these expectations. There may be a few bumps, flip flops, system changes, and balancing tweaks along the way for sure, but our end goal is to make a super polished game ready for Gold release.

Lots of art assets in the current game were made with old technologies and techniques that needed a major overhaul. This will offer players a more modern look while increasing performance.

Water survival was way too easy in past Alphas. This change coupled with the new crafting progression will bring back that feeling of survival to the game.

There are a ton of changes coming in A21 that we hope can address some of the concerns for networking and save game issues.

Backend framework changes are going to make it possible to add new content much easier not only for us working on vanilla, but for the modding community as well.

As far as the engine is concerned, it was chosen for it's capability to handle a fully destructible voxel world. An engine update in A21 will bring some bug fixes and new tools to help us smooth out some of these issues.

We also have support from various partners to help us fix and stream line these systems not only for performance, but for console portability as well.

We hear our players. We hear the modding community. We have a vision and an end goal. It's just going to take some trial and error to get there.
Now, I'm sure this won't be enough for the more "vocal" players to even just considering to rethink their assessment, if not of the devs, at least of the current situation.

As always, I just try to bring you official news and information, from the original source. You're are the judge if it's good or bad news for you, if it's valuable or useless information.

Enjoy! :popular:

Imagune if the content released in a patch was based on what was ready and not some arbitrary grab of what someone wanted?

Not sure how it's supposed to be 'enough' when it's just saying stuff we already know. What exactly has been clarified?

Much like any governing body of a country or business they dont really need to go into any detail or touch on any specific issues or concerns.

They addressed the major issues and gave a general thought that they were being worked on. No time table or details.

They touched on what they felt was important, said their piece and wont go any deeper.
They probably all approved that post and worked on it over time.

They said what they said and its a done deal as far as they are concerned. We dont have to like it or agree but us discussing the livin ♥♥♥♥ out of it wont change it or anything in the future.

Well, yeah, it's a PR statement. My point is that it doesn't seem to actually say anything new? Pretty sure everything on that list was stuff we've already been told in previous statements. I think just the stuff about backend changes supposedly helping modders is new.

This has nothing to do with the direction of the game - it just states the obvious - old outdated models etc. will be updated - there will be an engine update etc.

I never cared about graphics in this game - i care way more about building etc. - while the game looks better i think it was way more interresting with natural caves etc.

The only thing that actually says something on the direciton of the game is the part with water survival - but how does that make sense when they reduce complexity of clothing with the same update and add magical set-bonus-items and the most akward sets iv ever seen? Nothign says "back to the roots survival" like a "nerd-outfit" with magic set bonus stats ...

What a weird thread ...
Why do you think its your personal calling to defend this game no matter what?

I agree, as I don't see anyone else (besides maybe the mods every so often) that gives those of us here who don't go looking for it, this info.

You seem to be a little confused.

The "direction" of the game is not about the detailed features that you have written on your personal notebook. It's about the commitment by TFP to complete the game and to also take into consideration what the players have to say.

The "direction" of the game, is to know they're doing some changes to the networking and services used by the game to support a future console release (after Gold).

The "direction" of the game, is about them willing to further extend support for the modding community.

Some people have been repeating that the devs don't know what they're doing. The same people have been saying the game has no direction because of that. Well, here's the answer. Of course the same people will argue that they're just liars covering their tracks... and you're entitled to think so if you wish. Still that doesn't change that TFP have declared publicly to their audience that the game is going (minus a few bumps and setbacks) in the direction they want it to go.

If you can't understand that, I don't know what to say, but at least try not to make this about me for reporting these news, because YES, they're news, and there may be fellow players who could be interested.

Also, I really don't care about what you care about.
I just reported what TFP said, get over yourself, the world does not revolve around you.

Sadly, most people think when someone of authority in a given situation tosses the word salad that says absolutely nothing, that it's profound clarification given from on high.
yea sounds as generic as every other fun pimps BS redoing this, reworking that, improvements that make it easier to make improvements, but it never comes that way same old same old :shit:

RWG has though. It took a while but now we start seeing the HUGE improvements on how realistic the world is becoming after TFP completed (the first iteration) of the new Random World Generator.

MUCH more is coming in A21 about that BTW.

To be honest - the modded-RWGs were way better years ago. I seriously do wonder if actually paying such a modder wouldnt have been way more efficient - they could still have adapted those systems later on - or are those modders using open source stuff that cant be used comercially?

Read: There are a ton of mistakes coming in A21 and future updates will ruin the game.

JOST - stop beating around the bush and using quotation marks to pretend you're being "polite." Say what you mean.

I read that and thought of "Don't worry, be happy." and other meaningless platitudes.
