Salvage makes pretty good bank if you're just selling it all. Batteries, mechanical parts, electrical parts, generators. Get lots from cars and other things and they're all worth a bit of dukes.

animal hides
make tin cans, then make oil. oil sells really well.
sell weapons/armor with at least 1 junk mod that you arent going to use on it. Jacks the price up big time.

Salvaging, mining and harvesting aren't affected by the loot rate, so they're your best starting points.

Oil, lockpicks and beds are all very good moneymakers.

Oil does require a chem station and a recipe though. Lockpicks requires spending a skill point on lockpicking or finding an entire book set.

Salvaging makes decent money just selling the parts, but you make a lot more money using what you salvage to make lockpicks and beds.

Salvaging gives you everything you need to make beds except the cotton. You can farm cotton or just gather it wild. A point in Living off the Land helps.

Beds are an absurdly good money maker, and stack to 500 so you can sell 1500 beds to each trader before they'll stop buying them until their next restock.

They take rather a long time to make so you want multiple workbenches if you're getting serious about the bed factory business.

If you can afford to fix the armor/weps before you sell them they make 3x more money fully fixed then they do damaged.

Repair kits are cheap once you get a forge. Save all the glue/duct tape you can, duct tape makes 7 days go round

Stacks of electrical and mechanical parts. Salvage everything; cars, file cabinets, unlit lights (I leave lit lights alone), AC units, electrical conduit, electrical boxes, shopping carts. They sell for 8 thousand a stack.

Adding to this great tip^^^

Make a sign and put it out front of your workshop: "MATTRESS FIRM". That way your customers know where to go for the best selection.

Crafting Mini-bike handlebars and junk turret ammo works. A stack of polymers makes bank as well.

Coolers are also a great early game Duke farm once you have a workbench. They are always the predecessor to my minibike handlebar factory that occurs once i can perk higher into salvage ops.

But only if the armor/weapon/tool is Q2 or above; if you put mods on Q1 items, you lose money. A Q1 tool with a mod on it gives you less money than the two items sold separately.

the treasure maps that zombies drop have 10k dukes like 50% of the time

I get most of my dukes from skill books. I simply skip on everything robotics and clothing.

That is about the worst way to make dukes. How in the world did you land on that for most dukes? A book is like what? 120? A simple stack of junk ammo is 2.000 or something and you can just head for the next mining node and have at it. Books are semi random.

Even just any good armor with a mod or two is > 1k, high-end stuff is like 4k or more.
I don't think a skill book is worth the space in your backpack after like day 7.
