make tin cans, then make oil. oil sells really well.
sell weapons/armor with at least 1 junk mod that you arent going to use on it. Jacks the price up big time.
Max out Better Barter, and Daring Adventurer
Awesome sauce, pumpkin pie sugar butts cigar wield a .44 pistol(get the book for it ASAP)
Oil, lockpicks and beds are all very good moneymakers.
Oil does require a chem station and a recipe though. Lockpicks requires spending a skill point on lockpicking or finding an entire book set.
Salvaging makes decent money just selling the parts, but you make a lot more money using what you salvage to make lockpicks and beds.
Salvaging gives you everything you need to make beds except the cotton. You can farm cotton or just gather it wild. A point in Living off the Land helps.
Beds are an absurdly good money maker, and stack to 500 so you can sell 1500 beds to each trader before they'll stop buying them until their next restock.
They take rather a long time to make so you want multiple workbenches if you're getting serious about the bed factory business.
Repair kits are cheap once you get a forge. Save all the glue/duct tape you can, duct tape makes 7 days go round
Adding to this great tip^^^
Make a sign and put it out front of your workshop: "MATTRESS FIRM". That way your customers know where to go for the best selection.
Coolers are also a great early game Duke farm once you have a workbench. They are always the predecessor to my minibike handlebar factory that occurs once i can perk higher into salvage ops.
Mine stuff
That is about the worst way to make dukes. How in the world did you land on that for most dukes? A book is like what? 120? A simple stack of junk ammo is 2.000 or something and you can just head for the next mining node and have at it. Books are semi random.
Even just any good armor with a mod or two is > 1k, high-end stuff is like 4k or more.
I don't think a skill book is worth the space in your backpack after like day 7.
