Follower system
if this has been asked a thousand times before im sorry

will there be a follower system in the distant future? something like building a settlement and equipping people with guns and tools.

while i do like the idea myself i am just left wondering if its worthwhile? so much as been done to design the trap and turrets so using followers as defense seems redundant, how would you set them to mining without destroying your base? harvesting too many trees?

an idea would be maybe a purely cosmetic kind of thing, where they come with their own gear and you set up a radio tower to attract them, and they just wander to your base and walk through any unlocked door, they will attack any zombie they see, and just make the world feel fuller? just a thought though.

No. It's not currently planned.

I keep seeing posts by players wanting a pile of NPCs. Why ask for NPCs when there's multiplayer? And I suspect the asker wants the community but not actually wanting to deal with human being players with those pesky feelings. NPCs take computer resources to run, so the game/computer probably won't be able to handle more than a couple.

@shaded thats honestly a shallow perspective mate, but you are right about one thing, some or alot of people dont wanna deal with the MP experience.

as for the other points, they are adding raiders in A21, not to mention as hardware evolves so will peoples capabilities to handle the game better. the Devs already do a good job with allowing players who are capable, handle more. such as 64 count of zombies at a time.

There are mods that NPCs that walk around and attack zombies, they wont follow you as far as I know though. But you can spawn them in your base at least, but I only tried this like 2+ years ago. I spawned an NPC in my base. I honestly can't remember if she stayed when i went far away.

I wanted to have that Fallout 4 feeling with a few settlers trying to survive in a base. A settler and follower system would be pretty cool for single player and co-op with a group of friends.

Speaking of Fallout 4 though, if you haven't tried it, OP, I'd recommend giving that a try. It doesn't have the same feeling as this game, but you can mod it to come somewhat close. There's a mod to turn all non-human enemies into feral ghouls and a mod to turn those ghouls into shambling zombies. then a mod to build anywhere. etc. Then there's mods to recruit any NPC as a follower.

But yeah, thinking about this game's gameplay, I don't know if a follower would really work. It might, but I don't know. I think having NPCs walk around your base/settlement if you have one would be interesting.

I wish the auto turrets could hold more than 3 stacks of ammo. I had like 12 or 15 of em around a base....the ammo lasted a few minutes then I had to keep running around resupplying them.

I think the devs purposefully chose this limit to balance their power.

I just added this to my mod stack:

https://community.7daystodie.com/topic/26974-npcmod-a-community-project/

It's working nicely. Once you install the core mod, it can be customized via expansion packs with different types of characters. For now I just have the S-Core and NPC-Core packs, which are both required.

I have only hired one NPC so far. He did have a "Follow" option, as well as "Stay" and "Patrol". He got pretty beat up following me so I put him in the kitchen. He was already wearing the gear.

I have encountered several others but didn't have the funds to hire them yet.

I also fed a little dog which offered to Follow or Hunt and had an inventory despite having no backpack.:lunar2019deadpanpig:

I chose the "Play in this Area" option and he was in the yard a few doors down when I got back several hours later. Good boy!

Once I am better established and learn the system I will see how well they defend.
