Hold E while holding the shapes/bars and use actions like flip on face to change the orientation.
Thats how I make mine.
You can also try spikes on the ceiling of a build and hope birds run into them (Haven't tried it myself but I seen a streamer do it). Theres always turrets too (robotic or smg/shotgun) on the ceiling
But in some videos ive seen people standing in cages safe from birds and able to shoot down on zombies bashing the walls.

Why not look for a nice server now and then. Even just sharing a world with a couple people makes it much better. Can trade now and then, talk about bugs or funny things.
