should we be able to tame the animals
I think it would be very fun to be able to tame the wolves in the game. Not the alpha wolfs just the normal ones. It would also be cool to be able to trap the chickens and be able to build a chicken coop to be able to farm eggs

or tame a bunch of zombie vultures, we all know your real plans
i thought about this a while ago. make some of the smaller animals tameable in the sense that they are friendly towards you rather than a companion. they could add cages to catch every type of animal. then you would keep wolves, coyotes, or maybe mountain lions in the cage for a week or so keeping them fed. then when you release them, they would stay around the area and attack zombies so long as you keep raw meat available for them. if they run out, they become wild again and just wonder away
I think they would die very fast, or get infected.

In darkness falls mod it adds many animals, cow, sheep, goat. And animals have the ability to drop a loot bag containing a baby animal. That you may raise. I have had a pet wolf there before. It was problematic keeping it alive/contained. Any time a zombie came near it, it wanted to run off to attack it.

Ravenhearst mod you may have chickens, rabbits, and a fishing pond with a high living off the land skill. When you kill a chicken/rabbit it drops itself which was odd.

When I play these mods I never raise the animals much sadly, I don't see much use in raising them. Meat isn't hard to get, nor leather, nor animal fat. Eggs can be useful. Perhaps if you live in a biome animals do not like to be in or if you want an underground life.
The devs are not planning to put animal taming in the game, but there are mods for chicken coops and basic animal husbandry.

If there are mods than the game developers should think about it. I'm not the only one thinking about it being really cool
I'd love for something like that, sadly that was never even a stretch goal in the original Kickstarter campaign so the chances of it happening are null.

There are many mods out there. Just because some people are interested in them does not mean they should be added to the game. They have to balance between the features they want, labor availability, and optimization of the game. The limit has to be drawn somewhere.

Right now the devs plan for NPCs appears to end with Bandits. TPF have not had a great history of being timely with their updates, so adding to the development time to go gold is a hole other conversation. It is fortunate that they opened the game up to modding so players can tweak experiences to their liking.
I definitely feel like raising chickens to lay eggs (in default vanilla) would be a nice thing. Not taming at pets, but like planting crops except chickens.

It shouldn't give you tons of eggs tho. Just enough so you could squeak by most of the time without having to scrounge nests constantly for eggs is all. >.> Could cost you ... some corn, for every chicken cycle, say.
It's something the dev's have talked about and are interested in. Just not something they will commit to being able to do or guaranteeing they can do it. It's definitely on their radar and they have mentioned they'd like to have it repeatedly.
