In darkness falls mod it adds many animals, cow, sheep, goat. And animals have the ability to drop a loot bag containing a baby animal. That you may raise. I have had a pet wolf there before. It was problematic keeping it alive/contained. Any time a zombie came near it, it wanted to run off to attack it.
Ravenhearst mod you may have chickens, rabbits, and a fishing pond with a high living off the land skill. When you kill a chicken/rabbit it drops itself which was odd.
When I play these mods I never raise the animals much sadly, I don't see much use in raising them. Meat isn't hard to get, nor leather, nor animal fat. Eggs can be useful. Perhaps if you live in a biome animals do not like to be in or if you want an underground life.
Right now the devs plan for NPCs appears to end with Bandits. TPF have not had a great history of being timely with their updates, so adding to the development time to go gold is a hole other conversation. It is fortunate that they opened the game up to modding so players can tweak experiences to their liking.
It shouldn't give you tons of eggs tho. Just enough so you could squeak by most of the time without having to scrounge nests constantly for eggs is all. >.> Could cost you ... some corn, for every chicken cycle, say.
