Zombies going suddenly without warning or reason to crawling is frustrating
On default its no big deal. But on Insane + always run, early game 1 missed swing can be life and death,

Especially annoying when they go under floor damaging your feet and you cant strike back.
But its not chess it has to be random so that doesnt bother me.
But when i die with no reason second time in late game.....just standing in safety of home browsing inventory bam dead.........that is anoying.

It sounds as if something is very wrong in your game. Perhaps you need to verify your files and be certain that old maps and data are removed. Unless you can repeat what's happening, it's hard to make a bug report about such things, but it will always help if you're willing to try to make a report.

? I thought that was part of the planned changes to make zombies harder? Coulda sworn one of the things I read on the changelog referred to this.

They just kinda randomly do this, going under the floor I mean, had only happened a few times to me, but the random ultra instinct crawl for 1 second right as I try to heavy sledge swing is very frustrating.

Yeah because there's no way they are just poorly coded AI. This ♥♥♥♥ happens to me and my friends constantly on horde night. Zombies randomly go from crawling to standing and some stay crawling hitting us through doors and ♥♥♥♥. It's ridiculous.

The most annoying part is that zombies do it in an instant. You aim at its head and the zed just drops on the floor and you miss. Plus they still finish their swing while dropping like nothing happened. They should rework the animation for sure.

I have seen this behavior pretty frequently when fighting multiple zombies in confined spaces, and I completely wiped all 7dtd data (settings, characters, maps, et al.) for both the initial a20 experimental and stable.

I suspect that the AI is perceiving things that may not be obstacles as obstacles and the zombies are going into crawling mode to try to get through, resulting in unexpected behavior. For instance, zombies seem to sometimes detect other zombies as obstacles, and go into crawling mode. This usually results in other zombies getting pushed into the air on top of it, resulting in weird zombie stacks and levitating zombies. This might be intended behavior for zombies attacking a wall, for instance, but when it happens to zombies at a chokepoint such as a doorway it looks like extremely buggy behavior.

Kinda makes sense. Others zombies are obstacles.

That isn't a bug. That is an intended mechanic. You can re-start the horde by interacting with a zombie.
Khissi 27/dez./2021 às 17:17
Well, do turn in a report about what's happening. I don't play on that difficulty but I do have nightmare speed on for horde night. However, my base design precludes their being able to stack the way you're saying so, it could just be that I don't see that behavior. Every little bit of information TFP can get about such things can only help if it is a bug.

Dude. You are literally telling people to 'git gud' over bugs that are effectively a total RNG situation causing their fails. I don't know how anyone can take you seriously. It's bugs related to the newly introduced crawling pathfinding. Plain and simple.

@OP
I've observed zombies deciding to crawl in odd circumstances as well, on lower difficulties where it isn't as instant a life-ruiner. Like, in an open field with no terrain blocks around, flat ground, suddenly the Z is at my shins, having instantly dropped to crawling. Kind of a problematic occurrence if you are using, say, sledges.
TyphonCh 27/dez./2021 às 17:59
Some of the zombie animations are spastic and annoying I agree. I know wat you're talking about OP in cramped POI's (caves especially) zombies will suddenly try to crawl under a piece of wall or damaged terrain and I've missed shots. Hopefully they improve motion capture in the future for smoother transitions to crawling and standing.
