What have you learned the hard way?
Let's talk about some of the difficult gameplay lessons that A20 has taught us, and share tips for others who might not have completely adjusted from their previous experiences...

For example:
Buried treasure quests have gotten a bit of an overhaul. They now go up to tier 3, but there are some things to watch out for:
1. Zombies come in waves now while you dig, not just at the end. It seems like when your digging circle shrinks, there's a chance to spawn a mini-horde of 5-10 zombies.
2. You now start the mission, which I presume is what generates the chest instead of having it spawn as soon as you accept it. This means you can actually FAIL the mission if you get too far from the circle while fighting the above mentioned zombies.
3. DON'T trust the circle. The circle may lie. See below pic for the reason I was digging forever before finding the damn box.

What hard lessons has the game surprised you with?

Before alpha 20 i found the supply digging quest unappealing, but now that i read your experience on the quest type in this alpha, i find it even less appealing... I suspect its similar for the treasure digging quests/maps?

How to place the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ metal trapdoors that have no obvious handle, hinge, or anything else to indicate which way they open.

Lol, yeah it took a bit of messing around for me as well, but they do actually have a handle :P You mean the hatches, right?

Maps aren't treated like trader missions, and as far as I know those are still generated as soon as you read the map. They never spawned enemies the way the missions did, the tradeoffs were (and still are) a larger search area, and a locked chest at the end.

Have you done the treasure digging quests in a20 though? I have a bunch of maps stored away, but they remain unappealing at this time... :P

Walking/sneaking on drop ceiling tiles in a big store at night is not the smartest idea.

Night time is much more dangerous, but that can also be useful. My little drone informed me of a night time visitor, that turned out to be a wolf. So now I've got more meat then I had before.

Did my first A20 buried supplies quest, and it wasn't that bad.

On the lighter side, I got the chance to make trader Jen dance thanks to A20.

Yep, maps work the same as ever. It's the trader jobs that have changed. So unfortunately if you weren't a fan of it before, this is no different. They're more digging than the trader job, and you need to open a lock at the end. (which honestly is trivial with the candy)

You can manually trigger the Twitch Integration dance off command (or other commands) by doing the following:
Hit F1, type in dm, hit F1 again to close the console, hit Shift+F6 to bring up a menu and find one of the dance off commands. There's other stuff too like big head and silly sounds. Turn off dm mode when done playing around. (Note that dance off affects human zombies and traders while big head affects human zombies, traders, and most animals.)

Biggest lesson I learned over 2500 hours was what you can, and can't build with the Structural Integrity code and chunks.
I'll never forget (the first time) riding back towards my home base I had put over 100 hours in, and watched 1/2 of it collapse as it rendered in. And through continuing to pushing the limits of SI that's not the first time I lost 100+ hours and lots of my stuff.

S**t happens, and it's a game. Lesson learned, move along. That's why I giggle at the rage players when they lose a chest or a bear gets em'.

Yeah, my solution has been to just start from wood, since that actually has obvious indications of placement.

In a19 there was a little oval-shaped hole on the side that had a hinge, but that seems to be gone now, so it's back to guesswork.

The commands are quite popular from what I've seen in various test streams, and there's a little more to them then just looks. While dance off causes zombies to dance, when the music ends they start running like ferals. Big head makes their heads bigger, making them bigger targets, but also causes headshots to do less damage. There's a lot more new Twitch stuff too.

fyi, ALMOST ALL of the maps are in blasted lands. They have had thier loot table adjusted alot from what I've seen, t3 map can have upwards - 10k dukes,t6 items,20ish gems, enough ammo to keep john wayne happy. plus other various stuff...I enjoy them but I was a master carto in uo too so.
