Pipe Machine Guns
Does anyone else feel like pipe machine guns are way too good? The reload time is actually pretty quick, they have a full 20-round magazine, and they only need pipes to repair. I'd honestly suggest just getting rid of them altogether, since there's no reason to ever use anything else if you keep finding enough ammo. If they absolutely have to say in the game, the reload speed should be something like 20 seconds.

I've been playing on the harder difficulties for a while now, and the pipe weapons are in no way over powered.

Secondly, personally i believe that 3 pipe weapons would have been enough and extending this pipe series to 6 is kind of a waste of developer time that could've been put into other aspects of the game...

In any case, these are still early game weapons that don't add much to the overall game, because the early game only takes 1 week ingame, and if that's too easy for you, the simple solution is to simply increase the difficulty of the game...

no, their damage sucks (applies to all pipe weapons except shotguns which are awful in other ways). if you play on low loot they eat up too much precious ammo to use liberally and there are a lot more zombies and animals running around in the new version.

I like the idea of them requiring at least 1 part (gun, shotgun, rifle, etc) to make the appropriate thing. I play on harder difficulties with two friends and we do think they are pretty easy to make (pipes, wood ,etc are easy to find and feel even more abundant, and that's AFTER I lowered the loot options lol)

Yeah ok, but adding more players makes it also more easier to acquire loot, essentially as a multiplier for rng... Hence, it's kind of difficult to balance out a game for single players as well as multi/coop equally :P

my only real problem with pipe machine guns, or pipe guns in general is their relative power to each other. For example, the pipe rifle. slow RoF, slow reload, standard rifle stuff. However this is normally fine on rifles due to the rifle perk tree such as perforater. Not something you have at pipe weapon levels. single shot high damage makes sense to give it its rifle niche, but that reload time.... Pipe shotgun also feels like it heals enemies rather than damage them sometimes, though at least early perk levels do something for it.

The pipe machine gun though has everything going for it. While it does chew through ammo at a very high rate for early game stockpiles, it does better in pretty much every category than all other pipe weapons. just tap single shots (or get a lucky semi-auto trigger), and ammo consumption is no longer nearly as big an issue for it. It's per shot damage isn't low enough compared to other pipe weapons to nearly offset the really fast reload and high capacity.

Again, yes, i agree, pipe weapons don't last long into the game, they're not meant to. So the pipe machine gun doesn't have good stats relative to higher tier weapons, but relative to other pipe weapons? Yea, its stats are very loaded. But I mean, early game weapons haven't been very balanced... ever? Have you tried early game leather wraps without all the books, beer, and stat allocations? It takes them 5 minutes to achieve what an unspecced wooden club does in one hit.

Thats exactly why i said, the devs spent to much time refining these 6 simple weapons, when they couldve made the choice to only focus on 3 of those weapons and the rest of their time on the rest of the game...

It just seems to me that this tfp team consists of old lazy men, that are just chilling to whatever purpose they feel is adequate...

This is what I was saying. The pipe machine gun is WAY more powerful than the others. It's honestly better than most tier 2 guns as well.

no, they are all last ditch weapons and do have some use. That said, I wouldnt mind them being balanced more.
KellyR Dec 10, 2021 @ 12:21am
The pipe machinegun IS massively unbalanced... In comparison to the other pipe weapons. It's nothing special in general, but there's basically no reason to ever craft any of the other pipe weapons when you could have the machinegun.

I mean, craft a shotgun and a pistol just so you can take advantage of all the ammo types, but unless you run out of 7.62 there's no reason to ever use them. Certainly I can't see any reason on Earth to craft the pipe rifle when you could craft the pipe machinegun for the same resources, and they use the same ammo...

Reloading of 20 seconds is stupid. The damage output should be lower. All other pipe guns are pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥ but balance, they are cheap to make and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ weapons, but the assaut rifle is neat. I think the best thing to do is to reduce its damage so it requires more bullets do deal with enemies.

Pipe machineguns are indeed extremely op. Every other pipe weapons pale in comparison.
I play on Survivalist / Insane with permadeath and sprinting zombies. In the early game if the things go south (no stamina), I pull out my pipe Assault rifle and it works. It rarely works with other pipe weapons. The DPS is ridiculously low, then you take 2 hits and you're dead.
In alphas 18 and 19 I used to stack up like 4-5 blunderbusses for emergencies, but now a single pipe machinegun suffices.

By the way blunderbusses were better than current pipe shotguns.
KellyR Dec 10, 2021 @ 12:55am
I mean, I don't think the pipe machinegun is OP per se, it just makes all the other pipe weapons look like garbage... which they are of course.

It's all because of the ammo capacity. Either they need to give the rifle and the shotgun more than just one shot, or the machinegun needs its ammo capacity reduced. Otherwise there's just no reason to use anything other than the machinegun and pistol, since they have more than just a single shot in them, and the others don't.

So, I'm kinda wondering how much you guys have actually played with this thing. Yes, the Pipe Machine Gun is a wonderfully engineered weapon, excellent design and can put LOTS of bullets downrange FAST. Which is it's con. If you've actually been playing the game, you KNOW that finding enough ammo to make that your main weapon is just not going to happen. Fall back... oh S**T weapon, YES PLEASE. So, go play!! Enjoy having something on your belt that, when things go majorly sideways, will save your bacon. But, ONLY when things go beyond your sledge or club or pistol...
