20.1 Mailboxes a bit OP now?
so yeah... its nice and all... found book 7 of needle and thread within mins of starting a game (went though trailer park just for the mail boxes) then proceed to wonder a reasonable sized suburb collecting enough to buy a forge on day 1... and everything else i needed from the trader selling them unread.

I assume the dev's did it as an experiment to try to get the lesser used (needle and thread, spears, archery) books/crafting easier access and more usage.
Other than Book 7... anyone use needle and thread books for crafting....??

I will eventually read them all but in its current state... its easy early money.

So maybe they need to tone it down a bit.
Half or even quarter the frequency

They should have moved the chance to find the bow and arrow books to the Savage Country loot crates, as they are pretty underwhelming in general, give more of a reason to go to those POIs aside from scrap cloth and sewing kits. I already found 3/7 of the bow and arrow books on day 1 on 100% loot, and I wasn't going out of my way to search every mailbox either.
But this patch is experimental so it may change in A20.1 stable

IMO they should bring back harsher weather survival.

Cold and hot should both have more dire consequences, then IMO those books would surely become a very important find!

Are you talking books in general?

Because I've been finding a lot of books in mailboxes - both the residential mailboxes and the blue city post-office drop off type boxes - since the early A20-experiemental builds. edit: long before 20.1 in other words

Probably find more books in mailboxes then in the bookstores these days.
Edit - perhaps a reflection of the Amazon-delievery age? HAHA

Maybe adding in diseases and illnesses into the game that are long term subtle upkeep to your health, you avoid it by wearing proper protection and clothing, but risk it by rushing headlong into such environments without it.

Like say Wasteland has radiation, so you may have to forgo all armor slots to equip a rad suit.

what are you talking about, bow and arrow books are great. esp the exploding arrow book and efficient crafting via completion bonus.

needle and thread books don't mean anything lol. Well except double pocket mod.

I don't expect the book series to exist in a22

The important books are probably still rare and affected by game/lootstage. I've yet to see a drone book under 80 lootstage.

I like all the new newspaper boxes that can have books because every mod I play (DF, Raven, Legacy) use scrapped recipie books in bulk.

The only thing I'm surprised they haven't nerfed is mo electronic crates/trucks. You finish the baton/robotics book set in a flash. And early game its sure different having battery banks, generators, electric fence, etc as non-int builds.

I think he was talking about savage country crates, not books ;)

And about mailboxes - they are ok. Quests are real income.
I have problem with other books - can't find them day 10 and almost nothing (except ofc needle/bows/spears)
Somehow brawling drops a lot - maybe just my rng

Oh. I only started playing at 19 and freaked out when the ice appeared at the edge of the screen...but then nothing happened. Same w/ the desert obv - able to run around in metal armor w/ no real effects. It makes the game easier than PZ and I guess other survival games? Yeah, if they let the weather do what it's supposed to do, a lot of books, clothing, some foods etc would become much more important. I'd *think* it's something they'd re-institute in future. I'm also curious about the bees that I've read about, lol.

Yes I agree 100%. Dire weather should have consequences. Right now we can simply ignore it.

Yep that would make sense as well and add consequenses to reckless behavior when it comes to not so adequate clothing.

Imagine sneaking and then you cough or sneeze and wake up all the zeds lol.

I know those books are great, in fact Im playing an agility build for this patch. But those books are already tier 1 books, so they already drop earlier than others. Combined with this new buff it's even easier to complete this set.

Im saying that rather than buff the drop rate for the mailboxes instead it could affect the savage country loot crates to have those archery books instead so that they would be more useful. After all the theme of that POI is clothing and hunting.

lol @ catching a cold... no cure other than time.... and gives you with random coughs.
KellyR Jan 20, 2022 @ 11:41pm
The "books" are magazines, so it makes sense they'd be in mailboxes tbh.

Wtf are you on about..? Have you considered the possibility that you just got lucky? As that can happen with an RNG system..?
