Wolves can climb ladders
Wouldn't surprise me if bears can too. It is always the animals that kill me but seeing a wolf climb up my ladder to kill was a new one.

In my testing there are two groups of animals.

These animals can climb ladders easily.
Boar, Coyote, Dire Wolf, Snake, Zombie Dog

These animals struggle or won't.
Bear, Mountain Lion, Wolf, Zombie Bear

Ok, three groups. The other animals won't aggro so I couldn't test them.

Interesting. How tall was the ladder and were you standing at the top of the ladder or far away to allow them to try to use the ladder as a path. The difference could be "approaching a spot" or "approaching and attack" (could make a difference).

It's uncanny how there are two groups despite inheriting a "false" on CanClimbLadders, unless it's not inheriting properly, idk.

It looks like my ladder(s) were 7 blocks tall. I stood on top of this tower. The walls are covered with ladders giving them no choice. Without that some of the animals preferred to just attack the walls. My only objective in this experiment was to see if they can.

As far as I know you can't outrun IRL bears either.

Yes, you can. Oh yes you can.

In reality the bear stops chasing you as soon as it can see you are leaving.

We were hiking, someone said "oh, look, what a cute baby bear". By the time I was over 100 feet away and gaining more speed (and 3 other people were right behind me), they finally figured out they should run too. Adrenaline is an amazing thing, full pack felt like a pillow on my back.

Tru, but the bears in 7dtd look very skinny (You can see it on the model) so it would make sence that they would chase you down to eat you :P
I had a bear somehow climb ONTO the ROOF of a t1 gas station poi I was holding up in for the night. (It was night 1 going into day 2). Surprised tf outta me. It at least killed the zed that had somehow mad it up there too.

Bears can come down a one block wide hole, makes for exciting mining!

In my side (single), I tested to see because maybe the last a20 is bug IDK but all animal can't climb any types of ladders in any materials...

But you don't mention it if you tested in single or multi because the admin can change(mod) to allow animals to climb ladder...

I do all testing in single player, unless it is MP specific. In the screenshot you can see the version is a20 (a20.0) which is when I first tried this, but I have repeated the testing in the latest stable version.
I Can Confirm that Wolves do climb ladders!! Not Only that they can also jump from the floor into a ladder 2 Blocks High!! I have it on Video!!
Zombie salmon can and will climb waterfalls. Be warned.

i have never seen this. unless its a new feature, i use to camp on roof tops all the time and had zombies climb up, but dogs have always stayed on the ground.
Actually, all the entities in 7d2d can move up ladders if they go all the way to ground or even if just down to one block above ground. Also, even when you leave off the first two sections of ladder making it so you have to jump up onto the ladder, entities can still get on it if they are piling up on each other--effectively one climbs onto the other making it so they reach the ladder. Animals aren't usually in groups though so, that don't happen with them. But, the zombie Dobermans do come in packs and 'could' end up 'dog piling' onto each others backs. The solution is to always leave off the first two rungs of a ladder so you have to jump onto it. If it's an issue with 'dog piling' you can leave off the third and place an object a couple blocks away that you can climb on and jump off of to the ladder... like a hay bail for example.

Edit: Just for reference... in the real world--when I was a kid, we had a dog that could climb ladders if they weren't straight up vertical at 90 degrees. If it was leaned up against something with a slight angle, she'd climb that sucker to get up to us.

I remember my first time.

Night 1:

"Ha! You can't climb this ladder. Oh, you can! You keep surprising me."

-Tamatoa, Shiny Crab
i mean the games in alpha bro what do you expect things to work right?

well after 10 years of being in alpha id say yes... yes i do. hell there are kids in middle school who have graduated, went to college and made a full game before this game left alpha...

pathetic

There is an even better solution: Use a steep four blocks high slope made of shapes from the slope narrow series. You can climb that with jumps, but zombies and animals can't - works from day 1, no parkour perks needed.

They can also spawn with bears within 5 meters infront of you out of thin air because ambush!

Maybe, that happens when there are too much active zombies, you move a bit, some despawn because you are far enough away, and now there is a free slot and finally big Winnie can spawn (right in front of you because you have moved towards the queued spawn). It clearly is a bug either way, but this might be how it triggers...
