A20 can't find a wheel to save my life
Been hunting wheels for two days. Used pickaxe, stone axe, and wrench, just in case, because I'm no longer certain which one gives wheels. Have "harvested" tires, both singles and piles, for two days straight, all along city streets. Have been to multiple gas stations, inside multiple garages. I've harvested so many "tires" and not gotten a wheel I've lost count. Somewhere north of 50+ times.

What am I doing wrong?

P.S. It's a new game, first week, and I haven't seen a single bottle of acid yet so no I can't just craft them.

you don't get wheels from tires, you get scrap polymers. to harvest wheels you need to harvest the cars for a slim chance. or look for Pass 'N' Gas crates. or just do the tier completions and hope you get one from a vehicle parts kit

Teddy, most things are level locked (or game stage locked) which means at low level you 're not going to find anything really useful other than crappy parts and crafting materials. Just do tier 1 quests an after 10 you get a bicycle bundle. It's a system I disagree with mainly it's like in an MMO, everything pointless until you are level 50. Anyways, you can trip the "locked out" useful stuff by getting looter goggles and a couple of ranks of Lucky looter. Keep looting Garage Boxes, sinks and cars and you may get Acid. And there are book Perks that will increase the chance of finding acid, ammo, food and meds - the Looter Book.

You HAVE to do the Tier quests now since TFP dumped the "useful" stuff there, or you just power level to 40+ to starrrrrt getting mildly good stuff - luck is almost non-existant now.

Wheels can pop up as random loot containers. They are also able to be crafted where acid usually is the component that's the hardest to find sometimes. Traders can also sell them sometimes. I'd say keep hitting up sink type loot containers early on since they tend to have acid.

yup wheels and acid are way too rare. I needed either for the motorcycle for days and days and days. Never found either before dying and on death.... I restart.

It is pretty random.

I had two wheels by about day 5 of my new playthrough. I built a bike from parts instead of getting the free one from the trader (I didn't even know that was a thing in the new version).

P,S. Built a motorcycle and a 4x4 Truck as well. You must be running into realllllly bad RNG

You can make tires
crmarlow2874 Mar 3, 2022 @ 7:35pm
I have found more tyres than I need through looting, as for acid, honey from tree stumps is harder to get than acid. In my early days I found more than enough acid for my needs. You just got to go look in every nook and cranny and loot as many poi's as possible. Be patient and you'll find what you are looking for.

You can get better loot earlier if you are willing to enter the tougher biomes as there is now a loot stage bonus present in those biomes. A Pass-n-Gas in the wasteland could be your ticket.

Now that the trader gives out a bike as reward, that's a free pass on your first 2 tires, and actually impacted my point allocation strategy early game. I wound up buying a minibike as well so I didn't have to dump points into Grease Monkey.

And at Day 21 have a few acid and a couple tires I managed to loot or buy. That's 5 wheels, all I need. 2 for the motorcycle, 3 for the Gyro. Hopefully as my looting and bartering go up I can find the schematics or parts I need and never dump a point into vehicles.

I've never had a problem with finding tires, but I do tend to focus on scrapping cars and keeping an eye on traders.

There have been a few rare games where I was able to put together a bike in the first three days, though I considered those pretty lucky starts. Usually it happened when I would find several components or schematics and then I would purposefully work towards the bike.

On day 11 I had 9 wheel o_O just a single bottle of Acid.
On my previous save I had like 6 bottles of acid by the 8th day and just 1 wheel.

It's funny how we never find the things we really need, but the things we don't need are a plenty.

I always thought it'd be neat if the game was programmed to monitor your inventory and see which items you are near completed on and reduce the drop rates of those must have items to finish something. :steamhappy:

That's pretty much what our brain does already. People will always complain about not finding RIGHT NOW what they need at the moment but forget they had been lucky finding 30 other things they did not want / need at the moment.

It's once again the 5% chance of critical faillure where people will always complain about it happening too often because they are actively waiting for it to happen.

You can't convince me that the game doesn't already do this. Too many times I have finally broken down, or scraped up enough money, and bought a critical overpriced item at the tradder, only to loot one or find a schematic at my next stop. Not just a few times, many.
