Charred Meat is better than Boiled
...sometimes even more viable than Grilled

I know it's obvious to a lot of people but I feel like this point should be shared

I know the stats are better on boiled and that should be enough to determine but logistically it doesn't make sense.

A Boiled Meat gives you 10 food and 10 water, Charred meat gives you the same 10 food but -5 water. However, it takes a recipe of Boiled Water that already gives you 20 water, which you have to cook before that so you're cooking something to make a recipe item to then make boiled meat (obviously unless you found Boiled Water). You need a Cooking Pot for both water and meat as well. Charred meat does not need anything but fuel in a campfire but it gives you the same amount of food and if you have the water, then you're better off just drinking the water.

Would be cool if there were 2 outputs of Broth and the boiled meat

I know technically water evaporates when it's boiling so it should technically be less but you also lose protein if you "char" the hell out of meat, at least they got it being dehydrating on the stats seemingly correct. Just the same logic as Boiling Murky Water suddenly gives you more hydration :really:? lol

I said "maybe even Grilled" because grilled meat needs a grill obviously lol but you don't always have one, especially if you're traveling far or if you got Master Chef right away and it took me a few days to find a Grill.

Boiled Meat is almost completely useless relatively speaking yet it's locked behind a skill or a book, requires a cooking pot and a recipe that has to be cooked as well, with the same or worse stats in the end when consumed... in my opinion, it shouldn't be locked behind anything like Charred meat isn't but :BL3Shrug:

Boiled Meat heals for 15. Charred / grilled only heal 5,

Yeah, I usually just eat charred meat myself.

I might move on to something else when I start farming, like baked potatoes and yucca juice smoothies.

You can throw a forge together day one, so grills shouldn't be an issue.

I'm a meat stew person myself but I also hit up the vegi stew as well mostly because of how easy they are to make when you start farming.

I'm a Boiled Meat man myself. The water and cooking pot are pretty trivial since I always use one of my 4 tutorial quest points for the Forge. I treat Boiled Meat as a stack of bandages that take the edge off of hunger/thirst (I keep a stack of other foods/drinks back at base for when I'm seriously hungry or thirsty).

Good to know - back around A18, when you had zero food you would die pretty fast, but at some point (A20?) being at no-food just does a damage to you about once a minute (real-time). You could probably just use a First Aide bandage or Pain Killer to make up most of a day's worth of food.

Red tea is a Day 1 item for me as it knocks down hunger 15%, so boiling more water for meat isn't an issue. One of my first 4 points always goes to Master Chef as well.

A difference of 5 water between drinking it or cooking with it isn't worth the nitpicking. I'd much rather have the extended benefits of recipes, even if they are weak at the beginning of a game.

And if boiling murky water mystifies you, go down to your local murky pond and fill your belly IRL. Chances are good it won't be long before you're purging from both ends. That is definitely not good for human hydration. Drinking murky water should have a high chance of the squirts in-game.

I use boiled meat, but I don't like to admit it. It looks super nasty and slimy. Grilled is much more appetizing.

Bacon and Eggs day one. I know eggs aren't always easy to find, but I'm usually staying decently fed just eating all the canned food and charred meat I find while looting. But sometimes I'll end up going a while without finding anything else, so It's nice to have a small stock of somewhat higher value food for emergencies. And eating one Bacon and eggs is more convenient than having to scarf down a bunch of charred or grilled meat.

Although I do make a few stacks of grilled meat, too when I have excess raw meat lying around. Boiled meat doesn't make sense to me. Why would I waste my water on something so trivial?

I've started throwing pork into my ramen IRL and it's very satisfying. Boiled meat is delicious. But I'm not sure how it would be boiled in just plain water.
Not to mention, the trader give 11 dukes per charred meat, if I recall.
I was surprised it was anything at all TBH.

I don't think it's quite fair to say charred is better than boiled... I mean it is, in the same way that walking is better than a bicycle. If you don't have the means to acquire a bike, then walking is absolutely the best way to get to the next town.

Charred I find better as quick early food before I get a grill, boiled meat I see more as a health pack/emergency ration.

I'm sorry if this sounds rude but it sounds like you didn't read my OP and your metaphor doesn't match with the point, the stats for hunger and hydration are actually better, if you eat char and drink water separately instead of cooking them together for eating boiled meat.

This is the fairest response to this, Veneri said it too. Boiled meat is for healing more than hunger/hydration. Too bad there so many bandages in loot, i hope they fix that tbh, no point into putting skill points in medicine for that reason.

Charred meat and red tea, that's my diet for week 1. I usually have an abundance of meat by the second week, what with all the chickens and rabbits, and night time bear and wolf spawns.
