Mushrooms not Growing
I posted this in bug reports - but just realised I don't have all the system/log info they require, so re-posting here. Apologies for the double post.
I have mushroom spores that refuse to develop past the 'growing' stage. Have tried destroyed the spores and replanted with freshly looted ones. Have planted in various environs (indoors on walls, floors & plots, outside on walls, floors & plots) to no avail. Anyone else have this issue? and if so have you managed to fix it?
Thanks in advance.
Lexi xoxo

Mushrooms only grow when the chunk they are in is active.

I don't know how things are on multiplayer but in single player crops grow on inactive chunks including mushrooms.

That farm which sits on the SW end of my current map wouldn't be functioning like it is if things didn't grow on inactive chunks since my base is in the NE end of the map. Every crop including Mushrooms are in the field and they're all growing when I'm not around. Might have to knock out the mushroom and replant it if it's not growing. Sometimes crops can bug out.

Sorry, I'm obviously having a noob moment here. What do you mean by "...chunk they are in is active" ?

nice looking farm!
as response above, not sure what is meant by active/inactive chunk

The chunk referred to is a section of the map. Active means you the player are present in it, inactive means you are distant from it. I don't know the chunk size though.

How long have you left them to grow? From what I remember of looking this up myself a while back all plants (not sure about trees) take two real world hours worth of time to grow.
Which on default speed settings come out to about two in game days, if I remember right.

I also have no idea if that's two hours when you're near them or not.

Not sure about this alpha but, in the past, you needed to grow mushrooms in darker locations. So, for example, I always grow mine on the shaded side of bldg or even indoors for better result--although that could be the same grow time and I just haven't timed it.

A chunk is a 16x16 area. The mushroom uses a different code than the other plants, and that counter only ticks when the chunk is loaded. A chunk is a 16x16 block area.

This has never been the case. You could always grow them basically anywhere. The side of a concrete wall if you wanted.

I meant that the grow time was affected by sunlight conditions (or lack of.) So, you could grow them in a darker environ and they'd mature faster. Is that not true anymore?

Yes, I understand what you meant. It was a common misconception, and was never a part of growth calculations.

I've been playing currently for a month or so, and have not produced a single 'shroom :(

Ahh TY, i thought this is what was meant. Just wanted to be sure. Yes have been planting them in active chunk areas, along with my other crops, which have all grown properly. Corn for days, my friend :)

Thanks for all your comments, guys. I appreciate your time to respond. I'm going to put the 'shrooms down to being buggy and will just have to forage them when I need them *shrug* a little annoying, but not the worst bug.
The game's charmingly janky & heaps of fun, so I'll let it get away with much more than I would other games.

Peace out, Survivors

Lexi xoxo

Do all crops need you to be in the chunk to grow?

I seem to remember having to idle in an area to get crops. This was a long time ago.
