+1; farm plots are ridiculous.

There's reasons the farm plots are a better way to go.......which has been discussed in this topic several times. I agree, the older system was more 'realistic' for lack of a better term and kind of represented how we worked on the farm garden growing up. But, the pro's for 'Farm Plots' just make it a little better for in-game.......you can take your garden with you and it's not tied to chore of making fertilizer.

i want more survival like the game was before not dumb casual pvp with unrealistic farm plots which craft are dumbest what i saw +it's craft literally like fertilizer, and you can't chop zombies for resources, yeah dropped loot bag dumb too

yeah they can keep their farm plots, no problems with it, but why the hell they deleted garden hoes????

I think it was a limitation on number of items in-game or something. So, they dumbed down gardening and freed up space for other things like recipe's. They did the same with block shapes....we use to have more variety of blocks.
I'm just glad that they finally commented out the light requirement for plant growth (though I'd really just prefer a consideration for artificial light, despite the fact that that's actual work).

I do miss tilling the ground and applying fertilizer to it.
I would like to be able to use fertilizer again for a bigger yield.
I remember when you needed to grow stuff near water as well in order for it to grow as well among other things.

I haven't been playing this since THAT!! long ago. But, that would be cool.....having to have a 'moist' area by means of having water close by. For that matter, gardening could of been a whole mini-game in itself where you have to build piping, water pump, and sprayer heads which you had to turn on x1 per day to water the garden so your crops would grow. Ha....that would of been kinda cool.

Survival doesn't mean "simulation", if you want that kind of detail you can either use one of the many mods out there that add that back OR go play Farmer Dynasty" lol

Agreed. This game is a tower defense, horde, rpg, survival. The devs never sold it as a heavy simulation survivor.

Just sayin it would've been kinda cool. Personally, the game is fun for what it is. But, it wouldn't hurt to have more depth / complexity. Will it happen? Probably not.

Why there's no options to turn off food and water when it's a drag?

It's a real pain to make farm plots, I've killed hundreds of zombies last night and have 13 rotten meat to show for it.

It's also kinda stupid to add meat into a garden because any animal products are a menace to gardens in real life, that's why meat and bones don't count as organized material for recycling purposes.

Seems like they had a great farming system and downgraded the game in that aspect.

It isn't stupid at all, many swear by fertilisers using blood and bone. easily available from your local garden centre. "The benefits of Blood and Bone defined as 65% pure high quality organic meat meal are substantial to plant and soil health: Improves soil structure and drainage. promotes soil micro-organisms and encourages earthworms. Includes cow manure, which is a gentle source of nutrients." Zombies aren't a great source of rotting flesh, but the "undead" animals are.

The old farming system was just you hoeing the ground (Iron+ various materials for the hoe, Clay for the soil block you must hoe) and then fertilizing it (rotten flesh, nitrate).

The new system is wood+clay to make the frame, and rotten flesh + nitrate to fertilize it.

Essentially speaking, From a gameplay perspective and functionally speaking, The farming system is essentially exactly the same as it used to be. You prepare a section of land (Hoe ground vs make a box of ground), you fertilize it, you plant crops, you harvest crops.

The differences are that now:
  • You can move your planting spots after the fact instead of fertilizer being used being fertilizer that's there in that piece of ground forever, making any kind of base migration require you to source new rotten flesh/nitrite/etc for the new farmland.
  • You can build indoor and underground farms without it looking like crap.
  • You no longer need a forge to be able to start farming.
  • You have one less item hanging around your base doing literally nothing after you finished making your farm.

On the topic of animal products in a garden; Yeah, of course you don't plant meat wholesale in your garden. You compost it first. And yes, You can in fact safely and pretty easily compost meats, bones, and seafood. It takes longer than composting plant matter; But it can be done.

And This is kindof one of those things that gets gamified- You don't have to worry about composting a bunch of stuff to make fertilizer; You just throw it at a crafting table and it hand waves a few important steps for you so you can get to planting.

Many things are gamified, because some things just do not engaging gameplay make. I don't know about you, But I don't want to play farming simulator 2021; I wanna play 7DTD. I don't want to have to water my crops, weed my crops, do pest control vs insects, pest control vs critters, nutrient control, crop rotation, proper composting, realistic growing times, or anything of the sort; And that's just a very brief overview of a laywoman's understanding of farming; How many things am I just unaware of that get done to grow our food?

That stuff just does not make good gameplay in anything but a farming simulator.

The replanting step in the old system was boring. The new system is a lot smarter. And a farm plot is the same thing as the old fertilized ground except it's an item you can carry. It's not different, just far more efficient and doesn't require a specialized tool (the hoe).

Their stated goal was to eliminate items with a single use in the game. In this case the hoe. It had one use, that most people used maybe once early in the game. And it served no other purpose. Other tools like the axe and pick have multiple uses, obviously.

Basically the hoe required models, textures, animations, and memory for one single thing that didn't get used much. It was a smart decision from a game development point of view.
