That aside, I also feel that if you're not pushing a character close enough to their limits that they die occasionally, then you're very cautious. An overly cautious playstyle isn't fun for me, but to each their own.
I vividly remember my first time back in A18 where during a Horde, I grabbed my Sledge Hammer and drank a Moonshine and Vitamin before jumping from my perch into the seething masses down below. Now that night didn't end well, but I figured out how to make things work eventually. I don't remember the occasions where I was overly cautious.
I'll nomad my way to what I feel is a good place to start a base/a good PoI to take over, looting stuff like normal, except tossing and scrapping high-end finds that aren't immediately useful. If I die before finding a place to build/fix up, I full reset, world and all. Mostly because if I die in this phase, I've likely crossed most of the map.
After that, I only restart after blood moons where the base is pretty much lost and I'm basically in a full reset by game design.
I never said I hated doing it.
A better way to phrase your reaction might be to say that you were Frustrated (not angry) with your failure, and want to do better next time; And that you delete your save to start over (not rage quit) because you WANT to; Not because you feel like you HAVE to.
I like having fun. On this theme - a lot of times I goof off. I try things like fighting horde night naked with my fists to see how many kills I can get (yep, really), just plain because YOLO, and to see if I break my kill record. I like trying to set Demo's off inside a crowd of zombies, but this usually means I have to be in the crowd on foot too to punch the demo and then try to get away. I like to do timed tier5 quest speed runs, which often means aggressively pushing ahead even when I'm on 10 life left and bleeding, to shave off 1 second.
Having said all that I don't recall ever dying once since A17. But if I did, while doing any of the above, I'm pretty sure I would lol, and say well that didn't work, and respawn. I guess the game is pretty easy and I don't take it quite that seriously.
i either play rogue mode challenge, or have it set to delete everything when i die. doing the latter in my latest run. but only because it's not a challenge run, but more of a chill and build playthrough.
