Is it normal to rage-quit a save and start all over when you die?
Everytime I die I feel like I need to start all over again, and I feel kinda angry too.

Depends on the hours. Between 50 - 400... Absolutely.....

Well it's called hardcore mode. A lot of people do it in a lot of survival games. But if you hate doing it then why do you force yourself to do it??

Sure I've tried that playstyle. It kinda depends on the death. I've had a couple where I felt there was nothing I'd learned, and they were probably bugs (eg1 - Buddy was digging a couple blocks below me, I was on the ladder waiting for him to move aside, I instantly died for no obvious reason. eg2 - Preparing to dig down after carefully checking area for landmines, shovel hits ground and I die to a landmine, I guess I learned that maybe a landmine can be invisible?).

That aside, I also feel that if you're not pushing a character close enough to their limits that they die occasionally, then you're very cautious. An overly cautious playstyle isn't fun for me, but to each their own.

I vividly remember my first time back in A18 where during a Horde, I grabbed my Sledge Hammer and drank a Moonshine and Vitamin before jumping from my perch into the seething masses down below. Now that night didn't end well, but I figured out how to make things work eventually. I don't remember the occasions where I was overly cautious.

For the most part, I only reset under two situations.

I'll nomad my way to what I feel is a good place to start a base/a good PoI to take over, looting stuff like normal, except tossing and scrapping high-end finds that aren't immediately useful. If I die before finding a place to build/fix up, I full reset, world and all. Mostly because if I die in this phase, I've likely crossed most of the map.

After that, I only restart after blood moons where the base is pretty much lost and I'm basically in a full reset by game design.

I never said I hated doing it.

I know what you mean. I do it in RPGs. Not so much rage quit, but I feel like im cheating if I respawn. I never get very far in RPG's. In this game in solo mode I always delete my game after I die.

Yeah last few times I died over something stupid, like this last time I was doing a tier 1 quest to get an item. Went in, was looting the house, then when I got to the second floor, I got bumrushed by 5 zombies and kept using my spear (I should have ran away and used my molotov cocktail I think) - instead I just kept hitting one in the face with my spear, then I ran out of stamina, then I died, then I quit the game, deleted my save, and was super pissed at myself lmao

rage quit, angry, pissed at myself. This to me seems like you hate having to restart forcefully though....

how so? I want to play it again and start over, not because I hate restarting

It's the implications behind 'Rage-quit' and 'feeling like you HAVE to start over' and 'feeling angry' about doing it. Rage-quit is something you do when you're like, absolutely done with a game- you're frustrated, you're angry, you want nothing to do with the game, at least for awhile. Having to do something is very different from Wanting to do it; So stating that you feel like you HAVE to start over is strongly implying that you feel as if the game is holding your arm behind your back and forcing you into the decision. And feeling angry is something you do when you're pissed off with what happened.

A better way to phrase your reaction might be to say that you were Frustrated (not angry) with your failure, and want to do better next time; And that you delete your save to start over (not rage quit) because you WANT to; Not because you feel like you HAVE to.

I always restart when I die. Something about a survival game where the sole purpose is to survive....doesn't make sense to continue on. Other wise, what really is the point?
JimmyIowa May 4, 2021 @ 10:53am
I don't really rage-quit. Is heavy sigh-quit a thing? Cause I think that's what I do. Or maybe I'm more like Dude, no seriously?-quit. I'll have to pay more attention the next time I die.
erikh5027 May 4, 2021 @ 10:56am
Rage quit, heavy sigh quit, screwed something up quit...lol...it's all the same. To me, death means death. I got as far as I did. I do hate restarting, but it feels so pointless after I die to keep playing on that save.

I like having fun. On this theme - a lot of times I goof off. I try things like fighting horde night naked with my fists to see how many kills I can get (yep, really), just plain because YOLO, and to see if I break my kill record. I like trying to set Demo's off inside a crowd of zombies, but this usually means I have to be in the crowd on foot too to punch the demo and then try to get away. I like to do timed tier5 quest speed runs, which often means aggressively pushing ahead even when I'm on 10 life left and bleeding, to shave off 1 second.

Having said all that I don't recall ever dying once since A17. But if I did, while doing any of the above, I'm pretty sure I would lol, and say well that didn't work, and respawn. I guess the game is pretty easy and I don't take it quite that seriously.

however you play is just fine.
i either play rogue mode challenge, or have it set to delete everything when i die. doing the latter in my latest run. but only because it's not a challenge run, but more of a chill and build playthrough.
