Rotten Flesh Farming
I decided to build a big farm with fences and what not. Only problem is to make 10x10 farm plots of one crop 13 times over you need a LOT of rotten flesh. I decided that farming zombie bears would work best for this. So aside from hitting up The Bear Den and that one construction site with a bear cave I found another method that lets me get about 5 stacks of rotten flesh on a good night and two stacks of bear testosterone. Maybe someone is doing this already or it's well know but I'd figure I'd document it here for 19.4.

Step 1: Find a border area between the wasteland and "safe" biome where in this example I have a forest biome. Make sure your border spot has a fairly flat area on the wasteland side for a good kill field.

Step 2: During the day harvest all the cars, trees, and other big things that would obstruct your view. I cleared out a nice opening in my one world that was basically a field in a U shaped hill area.

Step 3: At night find a nice spot to perch from. I had a nice large rock formation in my forest side so I sat up on that. Make sure you have a silenced rifle (hunting/sniper) and a fast kill weapon.

Step 4: Wait for your bear. If nothing is spawning when it turns night you may have to shut down and restart the game. (single player) This will restart normal area spawning for the given environment and time of day. At this point if you don't see a bear you can make a little noise on the wasteland side with fires or shooting a few zombies. Soon you'll see all kinds of zombies start spawning in. At this point get clear and back to your perch safely.

Step 5: Sighted your bear! Take the shot with the silenced rifle and only one shot to the side. Don't kill him in the wasteland with a head shot. You want him to run to you outside of the big pack of zombies and he'll pull by himself not aggro'n anything else. Think proper hunter pull from WoW to the tank so to speak.

Step 6: Mow em down quick. You might pull a few zombies at this point. No big deal since that is extra XP. Harvest your bear kill and repeat on the next bear. If things get slow and there are dogs you can pull those with body pulls. Might get a few extra Z's but that's XP.

As you do this you will notice that field fill up real quick with a LOT of zombies. This happens to me regularly using one camp fire running constant in the wasteland side and me switching between a flaming axe, sniper rifle, and machine gun. Racked up about 5 full stacks of rotten flesh and tons of testosterone.

How big is a stack of rotten flesh? 1,000?
Nimbull Mar 28, 2021 @ 2:45pm
125 a stack I believe for vanilla game. I could get more stacks if i stick around but half the time I forget antibiotics or honey as well as have broken limbs and other things when the Z's get a little randy.

It's very difficult to farm anything on this game. You really just need to remember to harvest the vultures and bears when you get them. You will also notice that there are dead zombies in POI's and stuff here and there. They aren't sleepers they're just dead. Harvest those for rotten flesh and a few other things like fat and nitrate powder and bones I think. Just don't throw it away and you'll have plenty of rotten flesh from playing the game normally. Just like brass. Don't throw it away.

Oh I harvest dogs, birds, etc like you said. But for a very fast farming of flesh the outline above seems to work for me two days in a row so far. I've racked up a lot of bear, dog, and vulture kills on a wasteland border drawing them out like that. I think even at one point I got things so riled up I might have saw a Demolisher out there but it was to far away to get a good look right as well as the number of zombies spawned were VERY high from all the killing I did at that time.

Alternatively, you can just run up and down the streets and harvest the road kill, should you not have the rounds or melee ability to deal with zombie bears.

You could do that for a start which is fine but also there are plenty of POIs with pre-made farm plots you can use as well. One trailer POI has about 50+ if you can find it in your world. I'm talking though for when you have the desire and resources to farm zombie bears for a large scale farm.

Like this is starting out...

10x10 plot for each crop type in progress of being built, 1x10 row of seeder crops for each type, and a single 1x13 initial planting row near the house. Far enough away from my base so less chance of zombies getting it in a horde. Works out nicely really.

Edit: Just spent another night farming my spot and racked up enough rotten flesh from bears, dogs, and birds to make 84 farm plot blocks. Racked up another level from all the zombies that spawned. This is paying off nicely and I'll have another 100 plots in no time for the beer field.

Finally farmed up enough rotten flesh to set out a plot of nearly crop that is 10x10. Didn't bother with mushrooms since they grow on anything and I've been peppering them between the fields. Zombies on non-horde nights just jump over and pass on through. Obviously this can change with updates but if you keep a farm away from your main base you can have a nice sized food source easy.

Why in gawds name do you need that much farming. I have so much food and glue I had to pull everything but corn, coffee, and I'm about to stop harvesting my flowers.

Because you can and leaving it there makes it a nice player made POI really.

not worried about zombies ruining it?

That's a lot of work. Good job:7days:

Do you experience any performance issues at that location?

Big gardens and tree farms were a stutterfest a few Alphas back. Servers would even have size restrictions on gardens or mod out tree "seeds".:buzzed:

I have always avoided over-planting on my low-end system and haven't tried a huge garden since the introduction of Farm Plots.

Nope not worried about zombies ruining it because I don't stay there during the 7 day horde nights. If you build a base and don't sit in the base during a horde night it's safe as can be. Random hordes that just wander through jump the wooden fences and ignore the plants completely. The farm blocks are ground level so zombies just walk right over it.

Performance wise I don't take to much of a hit. I have a generic GTX 1080 card on a 7th gen i7 with 32 gigs of ram. Fans kick up now and then but otherwise things seem smooth enough for me anyway.

wondering zombies if they get stuck as they roam around will attack the wall that blocks there path

so i always put my farm on top of my base
Nimbull Apr 6, 2021 @ 1:30pm
Nobody got stuck yet. Since it's a wood fence with no nail requirements it's very easy to replace especially with all the trees I planted around there after chopping down a large area in the wasteland zone near by. As big as this is unless you bring in a horde during horde night or summon screamers and such it's not even going to be a heat issue for drawing Z's much less getting trashed by em.

Now with that said if you intentionally draw in Z's including exploding cops and demolishers then this place can get trashed. Not an issue for me though since it's single player and my horde farming is done in another location using respawnable POIs thanks to trader quests or at night where I farm the rotten flesh which is well away from there.

For me being able to build and use something like this without drawing attention is a win.

pretty neat. i usually just get enough of what i need from dogs and vultures at my screamer farming/horde base and from regular play by harvesting all the corpses you find on the roads.

but you do have a giant farm. are you feeding an army of friends? i find that about 30 plots is more than i'll ever need.
