First take note:
You will want to use two controllers to save some issues - just use controllers.
In my opinion using two screens (i know how blessed we are) one screen for player one and another for player 2.
You need an open source program called 'nucleus coop'
https://nucleus-coop.github.io/
Then download the script you need through the interface - set your controllers up etc hit play.
I run both instances on ultra settings laughing hysterically at how easy the game is to play splitscreen.
Some have it, like resident evil five, so the question is not a bad one.
The chances for this game to get it is basically a-zeeeeroooo :)
"PC gaming culture" lmao. PC gaming culture is having the freedom to play the way you want. Meaning mods, scripts, etc. So it is part of pc gaming culture.
I mean look at all the games on Steam. They add seven-to-ten thousand games every year. Even with that huge listing of games, barely a hundred of them natively support split-screen gaming. That's less than 0.02%.
