Does anyone else miss alpha 16 farming and action skills?
I can appreciate most things from updates. the graphics look great, and the new items are fun. But I feel like if it ain't broke don't fix it. and Farming... was good. And I actually liked the making 100+ items to get better because it was realistic... you get better at making things bt making more of them. Idk this game feels weird now and not as fun to me...

Part I miss about it is that I could just randomly plant seeds wherever I happened to be when I looted them so long as I carried a hoe with me. Now I just leave the extra seeds behind in trash bins cuz I'm not going to take the time to scrounge resources to craft farm plots just to use up excess seeds. Other than that, I like the new system better.
So, just download and play a bit in the Darkness Falls mod when you want that sort of stuff. You can use the hoe or farm plots and water is required. You also get certain forms of progression from USING items. It's fun...

'Realistic' is a bit... overstated... when referring to a zombie game. I think the changes made were necessary as they begin streamlining and preparing for going gold. I don't know all the ins and outs of their reasoning but I do know that as much as I love Darkness Falls, it uses much more of my computer's resources to run than vanilla does. I know the developers are trying to keep the game viable for even lower end computers, so.. I'm good with that! They give our modders lots of tools, encouragement and support (well some of the time, anyway) and I can only imagine how awesome it will be to have Steam Workshop once the game goes gold. THAT's when 7 Days will really shine. But, to get to that point, we need the most stable, rock-solid foundation vanilla possible. So, I'm willing to play DF when I need the infusion of old... it's all good!

LBD, Learn By Doing, will NEVER be back. It was abused by spam crafting items so players would get level 600 items by day 2. The Fun Pimps said "hell no".

How does making 100+ stone axes out of twigs, grass and rocks lead me to being able to make a steel one?
How does running into a cactus all night and then putting on a band-aid on every now and then make me able to craft steel armor and become a doctor?

Carry some farm plots. Hoe uses 1 inventory slot, stack of farm plots uses one inventory slot. Taking the time to equip a hoe on the toolbelt and use it takes longer than looting some rotten meat when you kill a dog or bird. I'm not seeing a significant difference here.

But I feel like if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Aside from broke vs fixed, there a thing called improvements. The new system is better, faster, and easier.

We would still be using the horse and carriage for transportation with the "if it aint broke don't fix it" excuse.

I mean, If you wanna get hyper technical, If we did everything by "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mantra, We'd all still be crawling everywhere like babies. After all, Walking, Jogging, Running, Sprinting, Riding animals, Riding carriages, etc; All that came after we crawled like a baby. And crawling wasn't broken, So don't fix it, right?
thank you to everyone that provided real answers. Everyone else that just commented on "if it aint broke don't fix it" yall dumb ass hell for saying what you said. Crawling like babies and horse and carriage I lost brain cells. do you even think before you speak?
I kind of miss Alpha 16 but farming in current isn't bad. Especially if you setup outside a wasteland zone with a rifle and spend the whole night snipping bears so they run to you and finish them off when they get close with head shots. Lots of rotten meat for garden plots. Also towns have a nice amount of naturally generated plots if you know where to look. But you don't have to take my word for it.

Are you on drugs ?
I don´t miss the absolutly garbage hitboxes from farming or learining by doing wich lead to people crafting tons of stoneaxes, running around the campfire for the whole night or sitting in the forge menu for hours.

Farming and LBD were poorly executed. Very poorly.

The performance problems of DF are there because it's a mod. So all the extra stuff is put on top of the base stuff and that makes overhaul mods hard on the machine.

The basegame gets streamlined to the "loot fast, level fast, fight hordes, die, repeat" formula. Was never my cup of tea, so I'm very happy that there are mods with a deeper gameplay like DF.
I like the new system better. Just personally find it more enjoyable.

Woah now, Devs don't take kindly to those who level fast round these parts.

Leveling fast goes against 7dtd game play mechanics.
