auto reloading for bows seems broken
I haven't played in a while, but don't remember bows and crossbows having trouble reloading. It seems that I have to press the R key after nearly every shot now. It this a bug or a nerf? Is there a work around?

Bows should auto reload, Crossbows are a manual reload because reloading a crossbow slows you down. So you have to tell it to reload so that you aren't caught out and damaged severely while reloading.

Ok, so it it a feature on crossbows. It's a shame because I used to like the compound crossbow. Guess I'll just sell them now.:steamfacepalm:

Well its that way for all ranged weapons except bows. You go to reload and you get slowed down. Its just crossbows are like blunderbusses where its shoot, reload, shoot, reload. So fine for stealth kills, not good for horde night or night time versus multiple zombies.

They do have the advantage of almost no bolt drop. Where as with bows you have to calculate the drop distance.

Bows, even the nice ones have gotten excessively clunky. it used to be that you could shoot, and have a smooth load into your next draw. now, sometimes you can immediately draw another arrow, but other times it takes an extra click or two to reload, breaking the flow of the game.

Up to you, but if you like the compound crossbow it still works fine, you just need to either hit R or left-click to load it now.

The problem with the way the crossbows are working is that having to click R after every shot makes multiple shots really clunky. I remember how nice they were with stealth shots, but I'm not sure that is worth it.

So it wasn't just me thinking the regular bows were messed up too.

I agree with this. I keep somehow fumbling my arrow draw (normal bows, not crossbows) and going through extra reload animations instead of shooting.

Mainly happens when trying to line up zoomed shots, I zoom in and when I try to shoot it reloads instead, very awkward when trying to line up headshots on approaching zombies. I think it may be because I try to zoom before the reload animation completes all the way, so even though it shows an arrow knocked it still reloads again.

You are not alone; we all suffer through this together.

I haven't ran into this issue myself. I wonder whats causing it for you.

You don't have to hit R, you could just left-click to load the crossbow. It's still a very fun/satisfying weapon for stealth runs.

Part of the issue could be clicking a tiny bit before the animations finish, I'll have to play with that a bit.

As for clicking R, I am aware of left clicking., I just said 'hit R' because it was easier to type than 'manually reloading'.

Honestly, I would rather the game auto reload. If I'm in a situation that is too dangerous for me to be slowed down during reloading, I can just cycle to a different weapon to break the animation and GTFO.

Well you are in the minority I guess. The FP said they made this change due to people complaining about it all the time. Most likely on the FP forum, as they hardly visit this one.

I guess I'm also in the minority that liked it better before, but it's not a big deal to me either way. I think the only time I felt endangered by the reload animation is the blunderbuss, which I honestly never once even used before A19.
