lawnmower please.
how do you clear grass from around your base? just run around punching?

It is time consuming and tedious to clear grass from an area around your base, we have blade traps and motors, add a couple wheels in a frame, BOOM lawnmower, a quick efficient way to clear all the grass from around your base.

just a thought.

A reasonable one at that

forget a motor....the old bladed-cylinder style unpowered mowers would work perfectly fine in this game, and would be a thematically appropriate item to hand-craft

wow yea, I mean you sometimes need the grass for crafting and collecting is an absolute pain and theres no difference in collecting it in the beginning of the game vs late game so there should maybe atleast be 1 item that can make collecting it better

There's a Lawnmower mod.

Bone Knives

always keep some spare bones around and the attack animation is faster than punching by quite a bit and you can chop that grass in no time.

they're so efficient infact that i craft one ASAP after spawn to harvest plants (Chrysanthimum, Yucca, Aloe, Cotton) whatever i need.

Slightly off topic (quickly removing grass), but a decent way to harvest a lot of grass is to either shovel hay bails (~40 grass each), or collect dead corn (~10 grass each). It's not too hard to leave most barns with 1k grass without ridiculous effort.

There's also the 'wood frame' trick which helps level the ground as well. Just create a large stack of frames and start setting them down around your base. They automatically destroy the grass when placed and level the ground 'usually'....sometimes have to pick up and set down again to get the leveling done right. But, it's sort of fast.....except you have to pick them all back up again. Which is why your suggestion is really good.........a lawnmower.....even if it is the old fashioned push type.

i find the best way to remove grass is a super fast melee weapon

You'll want all that plant fiber if you find the Cigar skill book...

But to be honest I'd like a scythe that can harvest multiple crops.

Not a good tactic when trying to save time. Fastest way to gather grass for me is to use a shovel and scoop up the top layer of soil. I do this anyway because I like to have a good supply of clay to make stronger bases and you just gather grass along with the clay. This does not work if all you're digging is dirt though.

Been more than a few requests for lawn mowers or other grass removal tools over the years. Would definitely be handy, but it would be an incredibly niche tool that only has use for a tiny percentage of the gameplay time you'd put in. Unless you decided to mow the entire world, I suppose :spazwinky:

In those previous requests for grass removal tooling, I had suggested a weed whacker. Similar to the chainsaw in building and upgrades, uses gas, doesn't damage the ground or blocks but does harvest fibers. Able to be used as a melee weapon in a pinch, low damage but longer reach and maybe a stun potential perhaps? It's all about having tools in game be useful over a range of tasks, makes it more worth the time for the devs to code.

Agreed....it would end up in the category that the garden hoe did......and then they did away with it because it was only temporarily useful. The changed up the whole farming system in the process.
So, maybe if they made like a miniature earth digger....would be little gas powered device....kind of like a rototiller....with small shovel buckets that would dig the top layer of soil and give you the plant fibers.....idk....still wouldn't be useful for just 'mowing the lawn' though. That might be something we just have to rely on modders for.

I mean, my cousin is now missing half a foot after losing a fight with a lawn mower, they can technically be weapons. Just cumbersome ones that aren't incredibly practical. Could be mildly amusing to mow over a crawler as well, finally get payback for all those broken ankles lol. As far as the mower being fairly niche in use with little time spent on it compared to overall gameplay, it also wouldn't be the only tool that fits in that category either. I don't see myself taking on horde night with a paint brush, a wire tool, or a wrench (though wrench is probably the most reasonable of these to also be a weapon).

Then again it also seems like everything is getting streamlined and simplified as well. I wouldn't mind the roto-tiller option though, maybe have that be a way to make a farm without needing to craft a plot that just happens to also be very effective at removing existing foliage like grass. Most the time when I have this grass clearing issue, it's not the fiber I am concerned about but the matter of clearing the land around my base (partly to help my frame rate as my base gets bigger, partly for the sake of sight lines, and partly because grass just plain gets in the way sometimes if you don't take the time to clear it).

yeah a knife is the fastest way to clear grass without digging up the terrain. Does wear out the knife though...Ooh! We need a new vehicle: a riding mower! Go all John Deere up in this apocalypse and mow that lawn properly, baby!

Also, I dare you to take on horde night with nothing but a claw hammer.
