nVidia screwed up my game *resolved*
Yesterday I used the nVidia Experience to optimize my game and now it freezes all the time. Got a GTX970 Gaming adn a i5 6600K. Should be fine. And it used to run really good but now I don't know how to get back to the right options. Even pressing "default" or switching to "low quality" won't work.
Any help?

uninstall reinstall?

change the gpu settings back to whatever they were prior to optimization!

GeForce Experience kills another.
Besides resetting in game settings you'll also want to go into your driver application profiles and remove whatever crud it decided to create there as a custom driver profile for the game. Just a guess as I refuse to use such applications. Someone more knowledgeable about the optimizations that software does could probably answer better.

What I did so far was:
- Reinstalling the game
- Trying all possible combinations in the Video options
- Reinstalling the game again after deleting everything in the Steam Folder
- setting the global applications profile in nVidia to default

Will now uninstall the nVidia software and driver and reinstalling it. Last time I tried the game some walls of my house didn't even show up, walked right through them and fell through the map. I don't know whats up. Looks like the game is the problem but there has been no updates lately and I run the stable V16.4.

Are you using an old save?
Some of the problems described in your most recent reply don't sound like video issues but rather issues with the save file itself (example walking through walls).
What version was the save file created on?
Was there ever a bad shutdown/crash with that save?
Do the issues occur on a new save?

I never had any issues with that save file. I created it with version 16.4.
But after I did a clean reinstall of my driver and of the game I also deleted the save file and will try a new game now. Sucks to kill my progress.

Well just reinstal the entire GPU driver?

Had similar issue in Warframe & star conflict where the game suddently drop to 15 fps & stutter like hell regardless of graphic settings

Total uninstal of Nvidia then redownloading it entirely so far worked for me

GeForce Experience is absolute trash.
It only screws things up.

OK, it looks like my save file got corrupted. If that had anything to do with nVidia or not, I can't say. Just funny that it happened right after the "optimization". Anyway, save file gone, me back to lvl 1 and a new map. At least I can play it again and as soon as alpha 17 drops I'd have to start a new game anyway.
Thanks for the tips guys.

Actually, if hitting the "revert option" in the Nvidia Exerience game setting didn't help, you could have deleted the "UserOptions.ini" inside the User\**your user name**\AppData\Roaming\7DaysToDie folder, then, to be on the safe side delete the registry key for the game HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\The Fun Pimps\7 Days To Die (just delete the 7 Days to Die folder) the registry contains video settings as well. then re-validate the games cache files then you can safely reset the video settings to your specifications and you probably would have been able to keep your saved game.

People actually use Gforce Experience, you realise it only alters the settings to the most precieved COMPATIBILITY... leaving you a crappy graphics overall and sometimes a broken game ?

Best bet is do what Ch53dVet said above after you uninstall 7dtd and it's folders, and re-install.

Geforce Experience imo is very bad, and maybe learn about about graphic card settings and features and create your own game profiles in Gforce control panel ?

never had any issues with it personally but thats not to say it works for everyone.. every pc is different.

Well, it's all good now. I did what Ch53dVet said but also did a clean install of the nVidia driver and the game as well. And I deleted all the save files. It's fine now.
Also I tried nVidia Experience again. Yes I was that brave/dumb. Also all good. Graphics look fine to me and I can even go higher (LOD, texture quality) without FPS drop.
Why my save file got ♥♥♥♥♥♥ when I optimized my game is beyond me but at this point I dont care. Just glad I can play again. Now give me Alpha 17 xD
