Any benefit to a random gen world?
Waited nearly half an hour for the thing to finally generate and the whole map is just a mish mash of random roads and buildings that don't even sync together well at all (roads having random 15 block drops in them.. buildings having their entire ground elevated by 3 blocks).

Seems like you're better off just going with a pre-made world instead of generating a brand new one for ages to get a broken map....

Also why even is that? In earlier Alphas it was much faster to load a random world AND it actually generated properly without all the weird generation issues.

My random maps so far in a19 have been pretty good, thankfully.

As to why it takes longer now than in the past to generate a map, they changed how it was done in a18 (if i remember correctly).

The game now generates and loads the whole map at the start, instead of chunk by chunk while you are in the map. This is to prevent issues in earlier alphas with people falling through the world while riding vehicles and stuff like that.

thats all i play is random maps. maybe go to the a19 rgw map seed page. it has a list of all the good ones people have found so far. thats the thing with RWG maps, they are very hit or miss at times. so if your PC is kinda slow, might be a better idea to just roll with one of the seeds that people have already mapped out.

They will be working on map gen more for next alpha (20)
Until than, you could try and use the 3rd party map gen called "Nitrogen" .
https://community.7daystodie.com/topic/12730-a19-nitrogen-a-random-world-generator-for-7dtd/
It takes some shortcuts so it's a lot faster and has more options to set before generating.
You even can make it batch x amount of maps by your settings and choose the best one, as it also generates a preview map file (like ingame).

I'll second NitoGen. I generate 10 8k maps to sort through in about 7 minutes. Most of the maps produced are acceptable.

I think they just need to implement NitroGen into the game somehow. Ask the creator if they can buy it from him or something. Or simply see if he'll give it to them.

5 minutes to generate for me. If I don't like the look of it I just generate a new one.

They could to save time, but I'm convinced they can do better. It just hasn't been their focus for a while.

I only play random gen because I don't want to play on a map I've played before. After 1000 hours, there's enough similarity between playthrough's as is.

But I have no issues with bad looking or weird random gen maps. The roads are fine. And...complaining that things are random in random gen, well I'm not sure how to reply to that.

My only big complaint about current RWG vs old A16, is the lack of cool skyscrapers and parkour puzzles (like the old construction site). I never see those anymore. Which is a bummer.

You may be right, but I'll admit that alot of the maps coming out of Nitrogen are pretty good quality.

Nitro is written in java, and doesn't actually do everything the in game map maker does. Though ti does have options that don't exist in the one in game. This has been confirmed by Sylen previously. Since its written in java it will never be compatible with the game, thats not how java works. There is no benefit for them to try and rewrite someones java code back into c++ or whatever unity uses to do things.

+1 and definitely a fair point.

This type of game benefits most from randomization, adds replayability and since it's all about survival..premade maps would become too easy and familiar.
