We should have a way to lock items in our inventory.
As title says, Terraria has a function in which you can shift or alt + click an item in your inventory to lock it. That way when you're pressing the new auto sort buttons in A19, it doesn't put them away. Very useful for locking ammo you dont want stored, food to get stored or any materials. Especially useful in multiplayer when you dont want to store ALL that stone for your buddies to take and have to sift through it all.

Edit: a word

Inventory management is a lost art

4 years in, I have never used auto sort.

Then good for you. I'm sure a lot of people would love to auto insert 3 stacks of bottle water instead of all 4. I'm just offering ideas for the devs.

Can download the most current KHA modlet that includes lockable inventory slots.

From what I understand, the ability is already in the base client, it's just commented out. Until TFP turns it on, this is an excellent tool.

.... What is the difference between auto sorting stuff and doing it manually?

One is automatic and takes almost no effort the other is slower and does the exact same thing.

That's like saying writing in cursive is a lost art, yeah it's lost because it's mostly obsolete at this point.

Because with auto sort you have no control over what goes where. Some people like having certain items in a certain spot, healing items for example, or items you want to sell.

It's a QoL thing that's great for people who care about it and meaningless for people who don't.

That's why I make a dozen labeled storage boxes and then I got stuff where it should be with or without auto sort.

Locking slots would be great, I always have a certain loadout and I am very particular about where they are in my inventory.

oh man that sounds great, since i dont like what the auto sort wants to put in my first 2 rows.

Yeah the inventory lock should be an mandatory.
C'est une feature que je trouve indispensable.

OP's idea is a good one. There used to be a mod for this exact thing in A17, not sure if it still works. It should be part of the base game though. Would be nice to have a row that never moves even if i use the autosort/automove

That's a separate issue. There are plenty of things that need to be fixed but that doesn't mean we can't talk about things we'd like to see...

Any reason why it's not turned on in the base game? Seems simple enough of a tweak.

Well they just turned the sorting functions on in the base game with b177 (had been commented out but usable via modlets since I think a17). So its probably just one of those things that they haven't decided if they want to officially include yet or not.
