Finding and continuing a game started with friends
I can start a new game today for example, play for a few hours and after we leave the game and try to return, the other players that were playing with me can no longer find my game/server. Any ideas?

If is non dedicated server you as host have to load the save game and invite your friends via steam.

If you are hosting the game, just start it and tell your friends do go on your pic on their friends list and theres a option to join, you dont even need to send envites . Also if you have your game on your frienda could start theirs and on servers list is an option to see were friends are playing and they can join from there .

Just have them join on you or you can invite them through the steam overlay.

make sure it's still Survival MP. make sure it's set to public. throw a pass on there if its public. oh, and if there wasn't a password, it tends to do it on its own sometimes, so check that.

it should also show up in history, but they may have to wait awhile for it to pop up. I used to just connect to the IP, can easily find your ip by doing a websearch for "what's my ip" and port is shown in the maps options in the 'Multiplayer' tab

and as others have said, the laziest way is just to have them join your game via steam friends list.

depending on your provider, there may be some firewall issues that prevents game from showing, others from connecting. but if it worked first time it shouldn't be that.

that's about all i could think of concerning issues with connecting to or finding a server.

Look at the buttons at the top of the server list, there's a tab for servers your friends are playing on

They can also favorite it from there and have it also show in history/favorites list

If you are hosting, they won't be able to find you unless you are logged in and have the game running

IT DOES NOT SEEM TO WORK FOR ME

"what" does not seem to work for you, several methods have been posted

1. Direct join your friends from your friends list (they must be in game for it to work)

2. Type in the ip and port numbers, the server (or lan game) must be running for it to connect

3. Find it in your favorites (assuming you favorited it) or find it in the list of servers your friends are on

Or are you talking about something else?

Generic use of the word "it" without context is of very little value to anyone trying to help you

no point if you're playing with 1-2 people and always play same time. nice to have if you want others involved but otherwise there's no reason for it. if you're running a decent pc and arent on dialup, not much difference and it's free.

wonder if dialup is still a thing O.o

Context. You lack it.
