Can't connect to server through public IP, only LAN.
All of a sudden it's not possible to connect to my server's public IP address anymore. Also it's not listed on 7DTD's server list. I usually have two instances of my server listed, one which only I can connect to through my internal IP, and one instance with my public IP address that anyone can connect to. But now it just refuses to show up. Also I get time out when I try to connect to my server by typing my public IP address.

I have checked absolutely everything related to this but everything looks OK. Port forwarding is set as it should be. Everything seems to be working. All diods are green on my router. I've also re-installed all the 7DTD server files. I've tried to start a new map. I'm at a loss what to do now. Is there anybody that has a clue how the hell this can happen?

Could anti virus software or firewall be blocking it?

Have you restarted your Router?
Do a Speed Test on your Internet?

Are you sure the server is coming up? Anyone else able to connect?

Have you looked at that logs?

There is a chance a web node or hop that your connection routes through from your location could be having technial issues. Could try a trace route to see if any show up bad. I've seen this happen to a customer or two in the past. Usually it gets fixed eventually. Sometimes fast, sometimes slow. One guy had to wait about a month before they got it working right again, but that was probably a rare case.

It's not blocked by firewalls. I've restarted my router and checked the forwarding port. They're all set as they should.

There hasn't been anything wrong with my internet speed and I don't know why that would matter wether it shows up in the list or not. It should only affect data transfer rates.

Nobody else has tried to connect since this problem started, but the only way to do so is if it shows up in the list with my public IP, which it doesn't.

There are no log files in the Roaming folder path, but I have several connection logs in the game folders. I looked through them but didn't see anything that looked like an error.

That's interesting. That's way beyond my knowledge but I've had some weird connection problems lately. Had to call my ISP and it seems they fixed that, but maybe there is still some issue with it.

Well, if your connection to the web ok otherwise and speedtests look good, then that's probably not the problem. Maybe the server itself is having some issues.

I don't understand it. There should be some way to see it. If I check the server program in the task manager I can see megabits are being sent through the network, so that looks OK too.

I wonder if it could be the Google dns servers that I'm using that are having problems, IP's are 8.8.8.8. and 8.8.4.4.

The reason I said do a speed test is because yeah it effects data transfer and how do you think that you find servers in games? By data transfers. Even though it is right there the info I beleive will still go to Steam and then back to you again. If your internet is having issues then there you go.

If someone else can find and/or connect to your server that narrows it down to your client side of things. If no one can find the server then it could be on the Server side of things.

It is basic troubleshooting I learned long ago. I admit I never ran a server off the client PC as the Port Forward seems to mess people up big time.

Sorry I had the wrong place for logs. I was going off top of head should have gone and looked.

Just throwing things out there that could help you find the issue. I learned long ago sometimes it is the silliest things that end up being the issue.

Well, you're welcome to try. Look up a server called "Unlimited map" in the modded server list. If it begins with IP 85 it's the public one. It should be enough just to see if it's in the list.

26900 and 26901 are related to server list and steam.

Make sure these are open, if you are timing out when trying to connect to public ip this is most likely your problem

I know the ports. The problem is that it has worked well for over a week at least, then all of a sudden the instance with my public IP just doesn't show up on 7DTD server list, so the only one showing up is the instance with my internal IP when I connect with my gaming computer (LAN connection).

I haven't changed or touched anything anywhere that could cause this. Nothing that I look at here shows any hint about the problem. The server program seems to connect through the network card. The Windows Defender firewall lets it all through and even if I turn off the firewall completely it makes no difference. Port forwarding on my router is set as it should be. Nothing odd about the files that I can see. I've tried to re-install SteamCMD and 7DaysToDieServer several times.

The only difference that I can see is that 7DTD server loads more data into RAM than usual. It usually only load 731 MB when it starts up, but now it loads over 1GB. That's the only difference I can find about anything I look at.

EDIT: AND I have done a virus check with Windows Defender and through the Virustotal homepage on the gaming files without finding anything suspicious.

You may be running out of RAM to load the world. RAM is Temporary Memory. Anything you can see in game goes into RAM. To run a server you need the required specs of RAM x 2 plus extra for your OS and what not to run.

So you may have found your issue. Now to test this therory you can start by backing up that save. Then start a brand new game. If that new game works just fine then there you go may not have enough RAM in order to do the server option. Also remember with a server it not only has to render for you but also for anyone else in the server needing more RAM. In the start of the game it is likely fine as nothing much is in RAM.

I noticed a couple of days ago that 7DTD did an update. I forgot what size it was, but I was wondering if it updated for you that it might have changed something.

That was not the game updating. Likely that was only Easy Anti Cheat. The only update coming for the game itself would be A17.

Could be the EAC update could be an issue I thought about it but never mentioned it.
