never heardo of 2 video games that used identical sounds effects.
We all know that annoying sound that happens when it is night time and the zombos come out to play.......I was playing Grim Dawn and I noticed that exact same sound effect. I wonder if the sound effect is Grim Dawn's and 7 Days borrowed it or the other way or if the effects are purchased from a third party.......I really do not care but it caught me flat footed. I had to check to see if 7 Days was running somehow...

They use different engines, but considering that 7dtd had that sound in years before grim Dawn then it's not 7dtd stealing.

Most likely if it is indeed the same sound it's 3rd party. It can be common to buy 3rd party resources for game development. Aka there are companies that sell weapon sound files for other games to use as it can be cheaper then making your own.

I always imagined there were third party companies that specialized in that.

Make it your morning ring tone. You'll never be late to work.

There are large libraries of public domain sounds. Since everyone has free access to them, you will see an overlap in sounds. You'll hear the same door opening/closing sounds, blades being drawn, animal sounds etc. In fact, the zombie 'alterted' sound one of the male zombies uses is used during commercials between The Walking Dead and The Talking Dead. Honestly, once you hear them in different places, it kind of ruins life for you a bit. There's so many sounds reused that go back to the 80s. I heard the Sonic the Hedgehog coin pickup sound from a cash register the other day (gas station) and the attendant didn't recognize it. But I digress. Public domain sound effects are everywhere and used by all.

This. You just haven't played enough games if you haven't heard them repeated in multiples. Especially for low-budget indie developers. The only one that really gets on my nerves is that "guy falling off a building" sound effect that is used in EVERY low budget movie ever created. If you've heard it, you know what I'm talking about.

You are referring to what is known as 'Wilhelm's Scream.' Absolutely perfect example.

That's what it's called. I was trying to google it just now lol

The same generic "vase shattering" is also common across multiple games and TV shows. That's another case of a "you've heard it, you know it" sound :D

[Edit] Not an exhaustive list by any means, but it gives a nice idea of just how widespread and normal this actually is.

As a personal example, I've heard certain "magic" or "spellcasting" sounds not just in video games, but all the way to television documentaries in years past.

On a related note I've seen at least 30+ Unity games, primarily those basic stock-horror indie titles you see Utoober's play, use the exact same tree models which 7days shares, all likely bought from some asset pack somewhere.

Sounds and Audio are less of an issue. Its when the 3d physical model is -exactly- the same that it becomes so glaring and impossible to ignore.

Whilst not exactly wrong, it certainly displays a severe lack of polish when a game such as 7days supposedly tries to market itself as something more and 'original'.

Besides, we should all know about the debacle involving the use of a Clot model from Killing Floor 1 as a Zombie type.

It wouldnt be an issue if they made their own original content as opposed to purchasing (shady) asset packs from numerous locations.
