tree farming
Are there ways to still be able to plant trees next to each other? It takes so mutch space to farm trees now, it's crazy.
the amount of space i need to plant just 30 trees is ridiculous.

I think trees need a specific distance from one another, but when you down a tree, a large one or med size, you get a seed or a pinecone. You can start your own forest of sorts if you want, but honestly, I just focus on regular farming =P.

Unless its different for A16, my Old Tree farm on the roof of my base has trees 3 blocks apart. It was useful in the early days but once i had enough seed to just go out into the area around my base i now live in a ever expanding forest.

rectangle 24*20 is too large for you?

Tree's require 3 spaces between them, so if you have a 5x5 grid you can plant 4 trees (one on each corner)

A 17x17 grid can plant 25 trees (5 rows of 5 trees each with 3 spaces around them in each direction)

If you are having trouble ensuring a perfect grid, I would suggest marking each tree plot, I surround mine with plates (the flat blocks)

I don't think 3 spaces between trees is unreasonable considering how large they get. They didn't want players making natural walls with nothing but trees

That's what i do early on. Later in the game if I'm making a roof farm I'll sometimes do 5x5 plots and do trees in the corners and vegetables in the center. Then just make as many 5x5 plots as I want

Here it is a few days later fully grown:

After cutting it all down 25 trees was almost 9000 wood, enough for over 440 wood spikes:

Granted my skills are kind of high on that character, but that's what's possible from even a small tree farm

Just for comparison, in a15 you would have needed 44,000 wood for 440 wood spikes

I remember when trees could be planted side by side in A11... saw some interesting base designs because of it.

One guy on the server I played, had dug a 5 block wide trench all around his base, with pillars that were probably 10 blocks high - nothing else underneath the base - the trench was hidden behind a 3 row thick wall of trees. No one, no zombies could get through.

And yeah, that's exactly how I built my tree farms Kuno. Those plates are so useful. :)

Well, you can still stack logs to make tree walls. It will just be only the real trees that have leaves on top

I usually only use them as one block tall

It makes the zombies jump and slows them down, It's also useful to confuse dog/wolf pathing

But nothing stops you from making a wall or tree fort out of them as many layers deep as you want
