New Splint Recipe
I think needing Duct Tape is a mistake. I loved having to rip off a piece of clothing to sacrifice to make a splint in a dire emergency. Now I have to carry duct tape or a splint!?! Spoils the excitement for me.

While the duct tape is not the hardest thing to craft, and splints been kinda easy to find now (around 4 or 5 stored in my game), I can't deny I miss how easy was to make a splint in the run/camp after a bad jump or bad run on my way down a mountain.

Before was pretty easy to deal with any leg wound doing a splint, maybe they wanted to make it a bit harder, to make the safe way be to carry a splint around like some people do with antibiotics after a bit.

Not a rough/terrible change, even if a bit annoying sometimes when you break your leg on the middle of nowere.

Try getting a broken leg on day 1 and not finding any duct tape, glue or a beaker for the next several days. I think duct tape should not be reguired in splints.

Agreed. I can splint your leg up real nice with some sticks and cloth ripped from my clothing. Duct tape would make this easier but it's NOT required.

There should be a Glue Recipe with 1 Can of Murky Water and 4xBones. Thats all we need i thing.

The splint thing doesn't make a whole lot of logical sense. It is clearly just to add a little more difficulty to the game. Even in B119 it really isn't that hard to get established. Honestly, once you figure out the game mechanics and combat timing/aiming, it really isn't much of a survival game. I always chuckle when the game is loading and the hint pops up that tells you can drink directly from water sources. I don't remember ever struggling to survive that much that I needed to do that. The devs hinted that duct tape is going to be required for more and more things in the future and many players will likely want to carry some on them at all times. I am alright with adding more challenge. The game is too easy. I am human and go through my periods of shell shock when they make changes, but once I adjust to them I generally appreciate the added challenge. I don't agree with every decision, but that's OK. It's still a fun game.

The problem is that the game actually has a fairly steep learning curve. Each iteration when they make it 'harder' they actually make it less accessible to starting players. For instance, new player breaks leg. New player probably dies to dogs or other zombies, probably at night, since they can't move very fast and their mobility is limited. New player knows enough to post on forums saying 'my leg is broken, halp!' and finds out about splints. And hospitals. S/he now goes to craft a splint, but has to find a roll of duct tape to make it. And figure out how to find/craft cloth fragments. S/he then decides 'screw this, Counterstrike is a lot more fun!'

I was thinking more as an experienced player. Having to find Duct Tape as a Noob is a nightmare! Bordering on impossible. It is advanced enough to have to rip your clothes off in a panic emergency; addding duct tape is taking the pi$$

Don't run off cliffs on day 1...?

I dunno, splints are something I used to scrap as soon as I found them because I could just make one on the spot if I needed it (there's always cloth and wood somewhere nearby no matter where you are). They just need to fix the wonky mechanics and bugs with broken legs and it'll be fine.

I have over 2000 hours on this game. TFP owes me nothing TY - it's been fantastic. Would I recommend this game to a new player now?... No way!

Are you kidding me dobies if that stops players playing they must wear an alert bracelet to remind them when to breathe.

New players these days always expect purple iron armour on day one, can't or won't bother reading and expect people to tell them how to play....millenials are pathetic.

How about not breaking you leg in the first place. It only happens when you being utterly careless.

Duct tape is everywhere and so is cloth and wood. Duct tape and glue are both easily craftable....if you can't make a splint after a day or 2 as is stands you must be quite touched.

This would only be a problem if you were reduced to crawling aka Day Z style......but your not.

I'm ok with it; I can cope ok on default (nice that boars have head hitboxes ond stuff) Vultures have been less prolific. I love XA16 but it's just too hard on default right now. Let the Hardcore players have their settings. No prob with that but make the game possible on default for new gamers!

Duct tape seems far more common as loot now though too. That being said, as was already mentioned you can make a splint out of some sticks and cloth just fine in the real world so I don't quite get the need for duct tape. I think a better route to go with making survival more difficult would be to add food spoilage and make animals drop more appropriate amounts of meat. Seriously, one of those elk should be able to feed you for quite a while (assuming you can freeze, dry or otherwise keep it from rotting). The advent of electricity really opens up a lot of options along those lines.

I think food rotting is a bad idea. It appears that the Venisons ;) are harder to catch. ( I love hunting them) Problem is there is a massive discrepancy between early game and later game. This is one of the best co-op games ever made but it's so difficult early on thats its gonna turn people away. In later game getting ammo is a massive grind.

I would like to add that as a gamer of more than 30 years that this is amongst the best I've ever played. Would be a shame to alienate new players. Also (apart from the OP fog and weather) the graphics on my machine are stunning in XA16.

There is soooooooooooooo much good about this game.

A small fall will give you a sprained leg which goes away reasonably fast without a splint. To break a leg takes a big fall and you need to learn to be careful.

I used to do solo wilderness backpacking in RL and you HAVE to be careful where you put your feet when you are many miles from assistance.

In RL you can also aid a sprianed ankle with a bandana and some sticke. No duct tape requires. But yes, clearly this was done to make the game more of a challenge, and if people can't handle the learning curve they can practices on easy.
