Food... good lord...
So, first couple of days were scary, and I do indeed love that scary, sneaking around, trying to stay alive part of the game. However, I was hungry/thirsty crazy often, and it worried me. Then, I found my first recipe... for spaghetti. I had spent that initial point so I could make teas and bacon and eggs which is pretty much what I always do. All the other points focus on combat and mining skills and such, but I can usually subsist on that one point until I have enough to make a little garden and really start cooking. Yay for Hobo stew!

Then... I found the spaghetti recipe. So, I had a couple cans of pasta and thought, why not give it a try. DEAR GOD... Food 122, Health 61, Max Stamina Bonus 40. I have always just scarfed what cans of food I find while looting, but this made me really stop to consider. My drop chests now keep all my normal loot, and cans... lots of cans of food. I am a happy hoarding little looter, after all.

I found the Gumbo recipe today, and being a good little south Louisiana girl that I am, I gave it a try. Food 112, Health 56, Water 20, Max Stamina Bonus 40... yeah. I've still only got one point in Chef...

Thank you Fun Pimps! It's not Crawfish Gumbo, but yeah, that's some good stuff right there.

SAVE YOUR CANS, guys, and make a little garden.

Yeah, I was pretty happily surprised when I noticed most of the canned foods can now be used in recipes. I like the variety.
Thank you Khissi, I did not realize this. Been having grave issues, pun intended, with food, water, and stamina. The *best* "good little south Louisiana girl" evah.

Yeah, making a farm now is actually really good, this alpha brought cooking back to the main stream, in A18 i avoided cooked food unless i had vitamins, as such cooking and farming were so lackluster.

now in A19, its encouraged that you make a farm, its day 9 for me and im growing potatoes, corn, blueberries, even maxed out living off the land. Such a nice change.

They should add "Bubba Gump Pie" ...

(Aldo's PIzza Pie)
"Bring Out The Gump"
poblano cream, sun dried tomato pesto, seasoned shrimp, mozzarella, onion, basil.

Ty for this post. Now I will save all canned food instead of using 5 at a time to get half my hunger back.

Food/Water drainage - too fast?
Hey all - my husband and I just set up a server and we are wondering if there is an ini change we can do to slow the rate of food water drainage with A19? We had a server set up but let it lapse due to waiting on a19 to drop. But noticed a huge difference - food water just drains a lot faster than previous. Even if we are just standing there.

Gotta love how they still ignored the main issue people complained about and made it worse. TFP breaks what isn't broken. You should be used to it by now.

its hope. lol - but honestly is there an ini setting to adjust it? or are we just stuck with it?

There's a skill to reduce food usage.

You can change the food via items.xml

Directly answering your question, there must be a way to change drain too since Valmir in 2017 stated this:

"7DTD directory/Data/Config/buffs.xml

paste above the </buffs> line at the bottom:

<buff id="admin" duration="0" stack="discard" >
<modify id="0" stat="food" amount="20" rate="1"/>
<modify id="0" stat="stamina" amount="20" rate="1"/>
<modify id="0" stat="water" amount="20" rate="1"/>
<modify id="1" stat="health" amount="20" rate="1"/>
</buff>" - https://steamcommunity.com/app/251570/discussions/0/144512526673975099

If you look it up on google, you might not get a direct answer but adding these replies together should help.

The game is meant to be hard in the early stages. As you level up it becomes easier.

If you put one point into cooking then you can make bacon and eggs.

Then spend a day walking the light be forest and you are bound to find 1-2 animals and mangy eggs.

Alternative go find the trader, do some quests, and you will make money with which you can buy food

I don't understand how ppl are having issues with food. I've got enough bacon and eggs to last days if not longer, and thats not even touching my canned food 8 days into a new game.

Same fam, food is only a problem until i loot a building or two, and even then killing 2-3 wolves/deer easily net me a decent amount of bacon and eggs.

yeah i noticed food was a real struggle for the first few days. Then it became mostly a non-issue. Same with stamina.

It has more to do with your play style than anything else. For people who love looting, food won't start being an issue right away. For those who prefer to build and explore, it just might be. The new food system is different. You can't OVEREAT, storing up that extra 50 points above full as you could in a18. Also, being hungry/thirsty really affects your stamina in a very dangerous way. It doesn't regenerate as fast, and for those of us who love melee and run around a good bit, it can become a deadly issue. Canned food does NOT affect your max stamina the way cooked food does. That new cooked food that uses canned food as part of the ingredients can give you an extra HUGE boost to your max stamina which, when doing an intense POI raid, can mean the difference between being successful, and well... not being successful.

To each their own, you know? Everyone plays differently and yes, I'm level 40ish, still with only one point in Chef, but, I've found quite a few of the new recipes, and I USE them. I make that food, and I use it, and it makes a huge difference for me. I also have a garden, which, while it took me a couple of minutes gathering the rotten flesh for making 10 plots, is virtually painless! I put 2 points into Living off the Land so I could make seeds since I'd only found 1 potato seed and those are pretty darned necessary. Other than that, food is no longer an issue for me.
