How to stay in Alpha 18?
In short my gaming partner and I want to stay in our current Alpha 18 world without risking Alpha 19 corrupting it when 19 comes. How exactly can we accomplish this?

Probably sounds like a dumb question but we are both newish to the game and just are not ready to give up our current game.

I guess if you don't have your game to automatically update, you should be fine.

go to your steam library, and choose which version of the game you want installed by doing the following

right click 7days to die
choose properties
click betas tab
in the box "select which beta.." it is probably set to NONE
Set it to Alpha 18.4

it will now stay at 18.4 even when something newer comes out.
("None" means use whichever version is latest, and it will download updates)

It's also a good idea to backup your 7dtd savegame folder if you are comfortable doing that.

As long as you don't opt in the experimental builds, you should be fine for a bit (till A19 Full Release, anyways.)

EDIT: And as the post above me said, even when A19 fully releases, you can still play 18.4 if you choose to do so by following the instructions given

Sorry but I do not know how to backup my savegame folder.

1) Hit the play button in steam for 7 days to die, but when the first pop-up dialogue box appears, choose "show game launcher" instead of "play game".

2) In the launcher, go to the tools tab.

3) Click the second button which says "Open savegame folder"

4) You can backup the whole "Saves" folder, or the individual save folders within it. Just make copies of them like any other file or folder, and put the copies some place safe.

TY so very much for the detailed instructions. Will be done immediately!

For what it's worth, Even if your version updated to A19, so long as you don't attempt to load the world, it would not be corrupted. Moreover, even if your version updated, you could just downgrade back to A18 via the beta menu without launching the game to be double sure, So even in an absolute worst case scenario, you should be fine.

In fact, as I recall, as of A18, you can no longer even attempt to load old worlds into new versions; so it shouldn't be an issue to begin with.

Still, if you're worried definitely back up your saves :)

It would probably be a good idea to have your partner also do this if you haven't already. It could save some potential hassles if they updated to A19.

Very good point ty for mentioning it. I will take care of that. :)
