Lockpicks on doors?
Would be cool to have the option to sneak in on the sleeping zombies by lock picking the door.
I tried to lock pick but it doesn't work. :(

Will this be a thing you think?

Probably eventually, strange it's not already ingame tbh

If you're crouched, most sleepers won't wake up even when you hit the door with a hammer. They have different triggers like, entering the room, stepping on trash at the doorway, or passing a certain point in an area. However, I tend to break out the walls if they're made of wood, and take out sleepers that way. Being able to unlock doors will be interesting when it's implemented. However, it will break the current breadcrumb system and that would be annoying in itself. Life is never perfect, eh?

at least most of the time there is an alternate path past the locked door. not always, especially in some of the fancier pois, but often there is some other way past it. of course sometimes you bust through the door to find empty shelves. ohwell. i definitely agree that you should be able to lockpick them for yet another way through areas. i was surprised to find i couldnt.

Currently there is no way for the game to differentiate between different doors; Either you can pick all doors, or you can pick no doors. Because of this, doors are not currently lock-pickable, since the devs want to encourage you to take certain paths through a POI, among other reasons.

It would also make it so that you could just lockpick player doors in PVP, which i'm sure noone would appreciate.

Dunno if they have plans to update doors and make this feasible, but, i'd wager probably more on the 'not happening' side of things.

But we can just break down doors as of now, yeah? So not implementing lockpicking for doors just means some tedious bashing with an axe and/or wrench, and then we're in...

They surely differentiate between player-created doors and game-spawned doors, don't they? Because we can lock the doors we've built ourselves, but never doors that have been spawned by the game. And we do have land claims, which could probably be used as an additional "barrier", not letting doors in a claimed area be lockpicked except by the claimant, even if they are game-spawned.

Lockpicking doors is probably the most common use for lockpicking IRL, and the one we're most familiar with. It doesn't make sense to just ignore this. It only detracts from the immersion and the usefulness of lockpicking.

If my character is a master locksmith, shouldn't he be able to lockpick doors, instead of spending 2 minutes bashing them until they break..? I mean, he can lockpick a safe, which doesn't even have a keyhole. Why not a simple door?

Sorry for necroing the thread, figured it was better than making a new one.

Think of it less as the door being mechanically locked and more like: the lock is jammed or broken, or maybe the door was nailed shut into the frame etc.

During the A20 stream it was asked about. The locked doors are here to stay. However they are adding locked dressers, and things so you have more things to use your lock picks on.

my actual lockpick for doors is the shotgun door opener ammo, its really easy one shot no door anymore and 0 trouble.

...forever? that's really busted and sad. lock picking is pretty bad as it is and the perks for it are a waste of a slot since you can just buy the magic candy or use a bit of auger fuel (which is faster than picking if you have miner 69er anyway)

Hold E and drag to 'use lockpick.' It'll take a bit of time (there'll be a timer) and might break so you'll potentially burn through a few. Always good to bring some 'Jailbreakers' candy to the bigger POIs since they tend to have a few locked safes along the way and at the end. Sometimes in a hidden extra area for those who take the extra step to look for 'em.
