7 day spawn question distance
How far away does the 7 day horde spawn? ie blocks away

My wall surrounds my house but is quite large :) so just curious if the 7 day horde can spawn inside my walls, which obviously wouldnt be great lol

Find a prison POI. it'll give you a rough idea of the maxiumum size a base could be for horde nights. I think it's pretty borderline for base size cause once in a while they spawned inside. If anything make your base a bit smaller then this and build up or down for storage, workshops, etc.

They only way to prevent spawning is to lay down a bed roll. While active (so only the most recent one laid counts) it will spawn block a 15x15 area. You can also replace or build over terrain to prevent spawning. Zombies cannot spawn on player made blocks. With the one exception of screamers. They can cause spawns on player made blocks still. I'm guessing those spawns go by proximity to the screamer, but that is just a guess on the proximity rule.

The actual bloodmoon horde, from what I've seen, will typically spawn 40-50 blocks away from the player. Meaning that it is not localized to a single place on the map, but will change based on player location.

For general base size however, you'll want to keep it smaller than 25x25 between walls so that you don't have random zombies spawning in your innermost layer of spikes.

Should be 15 by 15 with the bag in the center making it 7 out in all directions from the placement point.

Thanks alot guys, my wall was more than this from bag/me. So I just made sure by building on all internal areas to make safe (didnt take too long tbf)

Day 7 horde (was day 49) spawned around 45 blocks away so was good safe distance. Allowed me to patrol wall and pick them off and let spikes do the rest

Thx again

It's probably the 15x15 for three main reasons:

Innately there is a distance of about 20 blocks around the player where enemies won't naturally spawn. Screamers don't care much about this, but everything else does. This area exists simply so that the player isn't suddenly beset by random spawns on top of them without any warning.

So that people playing in single player are not forced to live in tiny towers or only underground. The 31x31 space means that you won't suddenly come homw to find a zombie who has magically slipped past all your defenses, has flown up into your storage room and who has decided to just start breaking boxes randomly while you remain blissfully ignorant chopping trees nearby. 15 radius, minus 2 spikes for outside walls on each side, minus 1-2 blocks for a wall, leaves you a ~9x9 space inside for all tools, storage, farming, ect. Meanwhile people who play Multiplayer can easily extend this no-spawn area just by having people spread out their sleeping bags.

To my knowledge, you cannot extend this area using claim stones.
