Zombies ignoring me
What is going on with zombies in this patch? They dont notice me, give up chase after around 20m and just generally seem to have lost all interest in killing me unless im right in their face. I stood around 10m from a wandering horde and they just walked past me like I didn't exist.

the sleeper ones seem to take alot to notice you unless your noisy or hit them, I have noticed bugged AI where they walk away from you, or take swings randomly at stuff, even been able to outright kill them without them attacking back, not all the time though, active zombies seem to be fine chasing you but yeah, they seem to give up after 20 seconds, I think there is or was a setting for it, enemy memory or something, maybe they dropped the value to reduce stress on the server, dogs used to be alot lower so they didnt chase you across the whole map.
If you want a challange bump the difficulty to 4+

Never used to be like this, theres something wrong with them. I read something about zombies not smelling you at the moment, maybe thats it. I cant play it til they fix this, there is zero immersion for me when its like this. I am not talking about them being harder to wake, im talking about basically walking right past them from 3-5 feet away and they dont do anything. Previous games they would attack.

Hopefully this gets fixed as I said, I cant play it like this.

yep- i get the same thing... when random hords spawn in they just run by even if i attack them only a few will even notice me... i think it has something to do with the additional night vision goggles now working -it kind of botched the detection over all --even without night vision goggles.

I looted an entire room standing up with a zombie just chilling in the corner groaning and waddling around.

They've been mucking about with zombie senses, and seem to have broken some things in the process. Apparently the new system is a fair amount more involved than it was, but there are still some major kinks to work out. It's definitely been noticed by others, with people talking about feeling safe foraging at night due to zombies just not noticing them.

There are plenty of other challenges and toys added this patch to play with, even if the random wandering zombies are derpy. They were never particularly challenging anyway, so having them just ignore you doesn't feel like a loss, even if it's a bit weird. The addition of sleepers, vultures, wolves, feral and irradiated versions of every zombie, wandering hordes, more screamers, triggered traps, electricity, and more all more than make up for a few off feeling bits.

Oh dont get me wrong, appreciate the content, however, I cannot enjoy it at this point. It isnt just the wandering hordes which have botched AI. Its most zombies, if not all zombies that I have found.

Unless I walk into their view, they will no longer detect me from smell or sound it seems, and NORMAL zombies will give up their chase/hunt of me after a matter of seconds, sometimes even from just stepping behind a corner quickly.

In previous versions the zombies would smell/spot u from way further away and give an epic chase according to the setting (mine is set to 60 sec zombie memory).

I assume they are aware of this bug, as they no doubt did some extensive testing in the months it took leading up to this.

As I stated previously I think I found them acknowledging it even in the patch notes, 'zombie smell not currently working'.... I hope they fix it soon as the immersion and challenge factor is what makes this game so damn good.

Same experience here. Zombies almost always ignore me, quickly forget about me. Had 2 wolves run straight past me earlier without even noticing me. Hordes are now easy to avoid. The sense of urgency had been totally removed which us bad.

The range is very broken too.

I have noticed their reach is incredibly increased since A15 when they finally do notice me. I've been hit by a zombie taking a swing at me from 15-20 feet away or even across the street.

At least im not the only one... sorry to hear that also....

I am just gonna stop playing til they fix it, the thrill is in the danger.

Same boat. They even took out the zombie spawn %. I wanted to crank it up to 200% because the game is to easy with so little zombies.

It is a slider now so you can set the max number of at a time. That would be 64 FYI.

7 months or whatever of waiting for this patch, I guess I can wait longer, pretty damn weak effort though releasing a broken game.
