Be patient it happens.
To much delight after a long fight and through all of the abysmal dismay. The forge it coughed and sputtered with dust but finally it smelted hooray! :D
It wouldn't even smelt my Iron Scrap...so I guess my forge was bugged momentarily but it finally started smelting all of my stuff down again. I don't know why it happened? -shrug-
A Zed hasn't hit it that I'm aware of...unless it happened when I was gone. >.>
this can mean a steel pic can take a very long time till the slot is usable again, i've not tested it tho, just observations atm.
If you put something that takes along time to melt (like the radiator or a LCB) it will momentarily dissapear so that you can place next thing you want to melt, BUT it will still take the time it needs to melt until the next thing starts to melt. So if you put 10 lead ore and 1 radiator in that order, you will see the 10 lead tick away at a rate one per second and lastly the radiator will melt and it looks empty. BUT that slot is stil counting down the time. If you put another lead ore it will have to wait for the slot to become free.
When I put tiem consuming things to melt I top them off with an even amount of something easilt melted (say 200 lead) so i can see if their timer is done. :)
So no, it's not a bugm but it is a bit unclear. Would have been better for the object to be left in the slot, but then people would really think it is not melting and would remove it. If you instead had the amount of material (say the 150 iron from a LCB) trickling in then people would probably remove it before hand and melt it again... Anyway, for some reason the devs chose to have it this way.
Hope this helps.
Once again CptnHarlock flies in to save the day with helpful advice, accurate information and timely friendliness. Thank you once again for your most valued help! :D
Otherwise, yeah, the forge just takes longer to smelt some items. The bigger the item the longer it takes. Scrap metal clicks off 1 a second; iron ore takes a little longer; tools/radiators/gun parts take even longer than that.
I feel humbled by your comment!
*tricorn off to you*
What you descripbe in your first paragraph also has to do with timers. It was more obvious in the old forges wher only the timer of the fuel was visible - it used to go bananas (showing 10000s fo sexonds left).
When you start smelting something the timer is set to *finish* at a certain *world time*. So lets say you are going to melt and LCP that takes about two minutes to melt (IIRC). You start at 12:00 on day 3 so it will be done at 12:02 on day 3.If your server crashes or you stop it in an "unclean" way it resets the server time to day one 7 AM. You still have to wait for the invisible LCB to melt until the server reaches 12:02 on day 3. If you are playing a SP game (not on server) when your game crashes normaly it backs up the time somewhere between 10 minutes to about 2 hours (from my own experience, may vary more) and you again have to wait for the world time to catch up.
You COULD use server/console commands to forward the time to the correct point. I've tested this and it worked. haven't checked recently but this is how it used to work and probably still does. So,if you can't affect the game time (not on yopur own server for example) just wait for the time to catch up and you can move one with your life and need not destroy your forge/campfire/etc and lose materials. ;)
As stated once before the man with the plan that can do it oh yes he can CptnHarlock with the description to the problem and the solution that's the resolution. I can't tell you how many times I've seen this guy answer questions that everyone else is stumped by...come to think of it...why have I not sent friend mail to this man!? -Throws paper airplane with friend invite on it-
haha! invite accepted! But I am 95% offline. :)
@-@ The elusive CptnHarlock....offline? BLASPHEMY!!!
Side note: How do you reply offline? Every time I try it won't let me. ._.
