For this you would usually run a dedicated server, and maps can be almost whatever size you want as log as it works into a value of 1024.

NitroGen is what you would need to make smaller of larger maps. From 1024 x 1024 to 16k x 16k.

Though Nitrogen is nice, it's isn't "needed" for anything. You can do this with a dedicated server by simply entering the number in the config file. You could even make a 512 map if you wanted.

The old Navezgane map was 4k, and the new one is 6k. RWG maps starting around a11/12 were 30K circles. Before that there wasn't a size limit for a while. I'm not certain what the Navezgane map size was before a8 if it was smaller than 4k.

To do it in-game you would need to use a mod like the one RedEagle made.

That's from a17, but I'm fairly certain you can use it with a18. Only a couple of his UI mods were broken with the update.
If you check the official forum[forums.7daystodie.com], there is likely another similar mod. They're aren't very complex.

You can. It's been done many times already. TFP does plan to add more options eventually, once they've finished work on the RWG generation process.

Not sure about them making smaller options though. Stuff like that is more of a niche market that is left to the modding community to fill, as RedEagle has already done previously.

Well it's not like it would take more than 5 minutes to add the option in a drop down menu to select from 1024 to 16k. It's a line of code that gets modified with the selection in the drop menu.

But i wonder how a 1024 world would be generated... would it generates all 4 traders in a very close distance and have all the biomes too? Maybe it's the reason why the smallest vanilla world is 4k, because smaller world are not great to play on?

More than 5 minutes if you include all of the additional tests that must be then run to ensure everything works properly. Thats a large part of why they havent added many of the options that are highly requested- Every new options must be tested individually and as it pertains to various layouts of all of the settings. More options, more permutations, the more complicated it gets to make sure it all works right singly and together.

S'why additional options tend to be a feature that shows up in beta and beyond.
