Experience means exactly that.... experience. I've probably been attacked by dogs early game hundreds of times in the hours I've played. Under circumstances that are exactly the same, I probably have a much better chance of surviving a dog attack than someone who is new... or relatively new to the game. Not bragging... it's merely a fact.
Knowing strengths and weaknesses ties in with experience. Knowing and being familiar with the game mechanics and how to use them to my advantage. Dogs can easily tear me apart if I try to fight them. My weakness... dog's strength. As long as I can find a place to get out of their reach before I run out of stamina I'll probably be okay. My strength... dog's weakness.
By using your wits I mean being able to quickly assess the situation, decide what needs to be done and execute a plan of action under sudden and unexpected stress. This ties in closely with not being prone to panic.
Hope that helps you understand what I meant by your brain being the best weapon.
that was pathetic again.
(why did u cut my text)
u are saying nothing - only that u are great.
i dont need ur help.
but if u really want to help somebody:
"being able to quickly assess the situation" -
tell something about that situation, and what to do. bla bla bla...
I've primarily been playing a brawler in A18. My leather knuckle wraps or bone knife would be... erm... have been pretty much a death sentence whenever I've tried to go toe to toe with dogs.
If you don't agree, then feel free to say why but just saying something is pathetic because you don't understand it is not very civil.
Remind me .... you're a creative inventor? Didn't you make an electrified club in A16?
Primitive Weapon = Fire Cracker (bit of powder, wrapped in fibers, with delicious meat).
You are code savvy, you know how distraction works. If the dog has any instinct remaining it will always enjoy a game of ... fetch.
Yeah yeah, not in the game now but neither was the electrified-club then ... :)
only thing he said was: u will have to know what u will have to do.
special edit:
me: "tower, tower - the pilot had a heart-attack. he is dead. (and the co-pilot is on the toilet)
i am a passenger. how i do land the airplane?"
tower: "u need experience."
And hey, a firecracker would also be the primitive version of dynamite!
Actually now you have me thinking... What if you could attach a firecracker/dynamite/pipe bomb etc to... say... A spear?
That being said... I'm not in the mood to feed trolls or argue with children today; so I'll leave it here unless attitudes and demeanor change.
(doesnt matter, edit was just fun editing.)
y, loose
I think you got the wrong guy.
Ahh, then apologies for a poor memory. You've been around for a long time, it's one of those things ... :)
On a more serious note ... The best primitive weapon is a weapon that the player is comfortable with and can handle it's inherent flaws. The tactics can be whatever, as long as they work.
I mentioned dogs are dumb, they are sometimes blind and deaf. Dog packs still use the horde logic (move to way point) and perhaps cannot be bothered to look around or sense as a primary task, leaving the door wide open for stealth. I crouch and put my back to anything that is 2 blocks high, and the dog pack will go around me and not see me (I'm quiet) because when they pass me I'm already out of their line-of-sight. Sound behind me is muffled (audio-wise) so the pack usually surprises me ... either I panic and get bitten or pull out my stone-axe (yeah, that's how bad I might panic). Lucky for me I put a blade-mod on it, eh ... might cause a bleed.
Whatever happens after that ... can be whatever I'm in the mood for.
EDIT ... Btw, a good modded stone axe is fast enough to break the dogs attack, just not strong enough to be that effective in the long run (depends).
Sure ... make it work like an "exploding arrow/crossbow bolt".
Primitive "one-shot" modification for those cheap stone spears.
Heck, the darn thing might de-spawn anyway when thrown, who would care?
Dog haters would certainly enjoy a bit of fun when they mod their spear with a bit of a bang :
1. throw the spear (probably miss anyway) ...
2. then have the spear be an actual distraction ...
3. dog goes for the bait ...
... tick, tick .... BOOM.
