Bicycles
IMHO the bicycle is not that great. I heard all this praise for the bicycle and made it a point to work towards it at start of the game and wow it really to me is more of a hassle than its worth. I also found out the hard way that if i get off my bike and it bumps me i take quite a bit of damage. I could understand the cars doing that but a bike lightly bumping into me and i get knocked around and take damage. Also why does the bike move fast when pedaling using stamina but as soon as i stop pedaling it automatically slows back down to slow speed? I would think the momentum would keep you at speed for a few seconds at least like when you ride and pedal a real bike. O well ill just wait for the mini bike not a big deal just wanted to share my thoughts on the bicycle maybe someone will help give me a different perspective on it. Thanks.

The advantage of the bicycle is that you can be 100% encumbered, plus there is an extra row of storage on the bike itself, and you can ride at much higer speed than walking fully encumbered.

The reason players talk about it with such praise is that you can get it really early on, I got mine at level 8 though I could have made it as early as level 5 had I had the materials on hand. Given that encumbrance early on can be pretty brutal, the bike is a great way to bypass that. You get an extra 8 slots or so and even with your own inventory full, you can go a bit faster than sprinting unencumbered. It is simply a great early game tool to overcome encumbrance and make use of the bigger inventory of A17.

I did notice that after my last loot run so I will agree that is probably the biggest advantage I was overlooking. I think I just let my expectations get the best of me bc I was so use to the mini bike from prior versions and I was feeling a little sour bc the last thing that happened before i did this post was my health was low I guess bc I hopped off my bike to go into a drop chest to offload some loot and my bike hit me and I died so i was a lil upset and had to take a short break but Im over it now. Lol. Thanks!

I agree, it would be nice if the bump damage and the no momentum thing would be fixed. Other than that the bicycle is great early on, drink a jar of coffee and you can "sprint" with it for kilometers.

I think the reason that many make a point of prioritizing the bicycle is for a few reasons;

1) With a couple levels in Cardio and a steady supply of water and or tea you can ride around at turbo/sprint speed for a very long time. Given the drastic base speed decrese of just walking/running in base A17 the bike allows you to drastically increase your effective gathering radius in a single day and depending on your settings your nighttime manuverability as no zeds can catch you.

2) IF trade focused bicycles also allow you to bang out quests faster, double looting should you choose to with focus on keeping/selling the end of dungeon chest loot.

3) All vehicles, even the humble bike grant Blood Moon invulnerability should you be unwilling/unprepared to face the horde with your current setup.

4) Jumping (bound to x?) into and on top of zombies is fun. Even if the collision does little dmg to zombies.

Possibly a few other reasons but those are the only ideas I can offer on why others would see value in pushing for them.

I learned to step away from the bike quickly after dismounting. lol It actually tossed me way up in the air one time. I thought it killed me, but it usually does minor to no damage it seems. The bad thing is you are vulnerable for a few seconds while laying there helpless.

To maintain momentum you need to hold the sprint button without pressing the movement button, it doesnt use stamina and your stamina regen faster, m1 to chance bike controls. You can hold the sprint key when going down a hill to conserve stamina and maijtain momemtum just doesnt hold W

I feel like the momentum thing will get added eventually, the community will likely push them enough to do it. Taking damage is another factor entirely. Best thing for that is simply to come to a complete stop before getting off and even then take a few steps away immediately while it falls over. They gotta make the lean a little less or something. I get that it’s there to keep the things from rolling away, but even it leaning over has knocked me down. While it didn’t hurt much, the dog that was in chase did.

If you drink a coffee before you bike you can drive with max speed for 3-4 minutes
And for the storage there is a mod(let)

I found this out accidentally, basically i was riding my bike and remembered when i ride bikes i would accelerate and then stop peddaling to save my stamina. Then my mind ticked and thought if sprinting makes me peddle faster and hold W consumes my stamina what if i just hold shift and let go of W.

To my suprise i maintain my speed without using up my stamina and it was easier to manage

Well I think you all more than proved me wrong about the bicycle. I always have a ton of tea on me so I will be sure to utilize that and I just have to not walk in the path of my bike like a dummy and i think I will start to see how it is very useful. Appreciate the tips and pointers! Plus I did overlook that encumberance issue where the bike helps a ton and that alone is beyond useful to me.

Just hold W for a few sec then let it go while holding shift to maintain momentum, let your stamina recharge and start peddling again. Biking became a hell alot easier after discovering that

Thanks a lot Major for that information, it will be very useful. Apparently everyone here ignore your info when it's exactly what they are complaining about.....
