Yep one of your first 4 points goes to healing factor, then use badages (made from cotton) as needed. And don't focus on fighting until you have some bandages and a supply of food and water. You move much faster than all early game enemies. So almost all fights are avoidable at will.

also- you dont just heal to full by eating- you have to use regular bandages and medical bandages to bump up your potentail health-(there are 3 sections of health bar-) then when you eat you can get back to 100. also pain killers-before were worthless -now they give you instant health like med kits used to.

eating is more important to stamina now. although you do get health back too.

They were never useless, they were just heal over time, so they werent health potions, but they stacked with bandages.

If you happen to be near enough to a desert biome, then you can harvest Aloe Vera, which is one way to heal that does not rely on RNG for Painkillers or overeating food. Though it requires a skill to make First Aid Bandages themselves, Aloe Cream can still be made without any skills from 4 Aloe Vera plants, and the cream can be used raw to heal a small amount of health (something like 4 or 5 points). Combining Aloe Cream with the regen from Healing Factor, and the better food recipes from Master Chef, I usually don't have any problems with my health against early zombies, so long as I don't place myself in a situation to get swarmed.

I haven't found much reason to jump to Lvl 2 Master Chef right away. Much of the early game can be handled very easily just by making a lot of Bacon and Eggs. They satisfy an excellent amount of hunger, and they also recover a decent amount of health. This plus a point in Healing Factor, an ample supply of standard Bandages, some raw Aloe Cream, and maybe an optional point in Slow Metabolism if you feel like you're getting Hungry or Thirsty too fast is usually fine through the first Horde Night.

I agree except I decided to go boiled meat route and still to find the desert close enough on this playthrough. I find slow metabolism unneeded as food flows like water into my cooking pot lol
