How long to packs stay on the ground before decay?

Used to be 20 mins i believe.

Once you die the 1st time mark that icon asap. If you get some temp gear and go after bag 1 and somehow fir the icon for bag1 dissapears and marks bag 2.

Bag 1 is still there but you can only have map marker ( turqoise ) for 1 bad ata time. So bag 2 is the icon on your compass but bag 1 still exists, that why you marh it asap.

the 20 mins i cant confiem but the rest im 99% confident in !

I don't think they are meant to vanish, but you only get an indicator pointing to the last dropped pack. I've lost several packs already because of this and a friend stumbled upon one of them hours later.

I dont think there is a time limit. Found my friends bag by luck on his first death. He died before grabing it and he forgot to mark it. It was atleast an hour when I found it.

Backpack decay is something you should be able to toggle, I just died during the first blood moon as vultures spawned and it was impossible for me to get back during the night due to them circling (died twise more and then gave up and hunkered down in a prepared safe house).

Thus when morning came I went back only to find my backpack with my best stuff gone. Atleast let the backpack stick round for a few days...

Beware of dying during a combat quest. The quest area is reset and your backpack is gone.
